did you know that dolphins must breathe voluntarily, that is why they use half their brain to sleep at one time, while the other half moniters the breathing, then they use the other side. So dolphins must say "half-awake" when "sleeping" or else they drown

It's pretty much their version of nostrils, but it is essentially, first and foremost, to breath; although they can if they think about it (it isn't a reflex or as natural as to use the blowhole) they don't breath through their mouths and only use their blow hole to breath. They can however also deposit mucus, as we do from their lungs and when dirt gathers. The sounds we hear dolphins make also comes from the blowhole, again, not via their mouths

I don't know why this quessie is in this section but I can tell you that the blowhole is also used for the communication noises dolphins make!

Dolphins don't actually 'speak' thru their mouths!
