I am being treated for a 1cm Kidney stone in the upj of my ureter. Of course it is to large to pass and the pain at times is unbearable. When I went to the Doc the first part of Dec. He gace me 40 7.5 loritabs. Since then I have had 2 refills of 5 mg loritabs (30) each time and 1 (30) 7.5. I am not going over the recommended dose but I need another refill and I'm afraid they are going to think this is to much. I am having surgery in Feb. This is due to Insurance. What do you all think? Is it to much and what should I say? It's been over 30 days since the first script.

It doesn't appear you are abusing them if the doctor knows you have kidney stones, he will refill your script.

Sometimes you can't do anything more than what you are doing which is treating the pain right now. Until you have your surgery, you have to control the pain and since you are not abusing the med, you shouldn't be afraid to ask for more.

I've had a couple of kidney stones (by age 20) and the pain is definitely unbearable at times. As long as you're not going over the recommended dosage, you should be fine. Just go ahead and ask. Just as a little side note, I almost had surgery on one stone. I ended up passing it the day before pre-op. One thing that helped me was drinking a lot of lemonade because of the acidity. My urologist said that the acidity helps break down the stone so it can pass. I would ask him and see if drinking fresh lemonade is ok for you and try it. It may help. I was ecstatic when I finally passed it! Good luck!

Well, you'll never know until you ask. Talk to your insurance company and explain your situation. Your doctor can back you up if need be.
