In dermatology, a pigmented spot on the skin, Also called a nevus. In medicine, a benign growth on the skin that is formed by a cluster of melanocytes (cells that make the pigment melanin). Moles are usually dark, and may be raised from the skin.

These spot on the outer layer of the skin (epidermis) - and can be round, oval, flat, or raised. They can occur singly or in clusters on any part of the body. Most moles are brown, but colours can range from pinkish flesh tones to yellow, dark blue, or black.

Everyone has at least a few moles. They generally appear by the time a person is 20 and look, at first, like freckles. A mole's colour and shape don't usually change. Changes in hormone levels that occur during puberty and pregnancy can make moles larger and darker. New moles may also appear during this period.

A mole usually lasts about 50 years before beginning to fade. Some moles disappear completely, and some never lighten at all. Some moles develop stalks that raise them above the skin's surface; these moles eventually drop off.

If you are older than 20, then it may need attention by your GP.

If it is changing then you need to have it checked out by a doctor :)

Moles can be flat or raised, smooth or rough, and some have hair growing from them. Moles are usually circular or oval in shape with a smooth edge.

It's important to check your moles regularly and be aware of any changes in colour, shape or size. Most changes are harmless and are due to a benign (non-cancerous) increase of pigment cells in the skin. However, you should see your GP if a mole looks unusual so it can be checked out.

Well a mole is a bit like a severe freckle, a kind of prown soft bubble on top of your skin, sometimes with hair, sometimes not.

These are a sort of cancer but usually benign (non agressive) but they can be malignant (dangerous) so if it is growing quickly or is itching or sore get the doc to have a look, just to be on the safe side.
