I'm recovering from a knee sprain, so walking/running is out for now. Any ideas?

Although it might get boring, lift you arms up and down. Actually, if you do it with light weights it can make a decent cardio workout. Anything that raises your heart rate can be cardio as long as you can maintain it long enough. Just take care you use your joints properly or you might injure them.

20 minutes a day is how much you need for exercise to be useful. You can break it up into 10 minute segments. 10 minutes is the minimum, though.

i'm not sure what the technical name is but have you tried a hand bike. you pedal it with your hands, it is also a good core strengthening excercise. any cardio exercise must be at a length of at least 30min. a day without stopping...very important to not stop and start b/c it is the steady pace that is good for your heart. have you tried swimming yet? that would be an awesome physical therapy/ cardio workout. use a kickboard to keep the upper boby out of the water and use your strong leg to kick. you don't need to join a class, just find a good lap pool where you can go at your own pace

Swimming would have the least impact on you knees and still provide a good cardio and over-all work-out.

Swimming does not put stress on your knee, and aqua aerobics is good if your injury was not too serious. Kayaking and rowing are also good, but not everybody has access to a river.
