Can you crop a staffordshire terriors' tail? or is it part of their spine

You can do it, its safe but if you do it most should be done shortly after birth. We have Brittany spaniel who when we got her was 3 months old took her to the vet to ask about the cropping and were told it would be to painful at her age. So now she's a yr old without a cropped tail but it hasn't made any difference other then the fact when she is out in the fields working {hunting birds} she does get stickers stuck in her tail.

The tail is an extension of a dogs spine. Cropping is fine as long as it is done within the first few days of the puppy's life. The older the dog gets, the more painful it is and most vets will only do it for medical reasons.

The correct spelling is terrier, not "terrior." American Staffordshire Terrier. It's not "cropping" a dog's tail it's called "docking." You crop the ears.

Why would you want to dock your dog when it's not even part of the breed standard? Their ears are cropped as part of the breed standard, but uncropping is mostly preferrered. When you crop a dog's ears it's usually done right after their born not when they're grown.

Ears - Cropped or uncropped, the latter preferred. Uncropped ears should be short and held rose or half prick.

Tail
Short in comparison to size, low set, tapering to a fine point; not curled or held over back. Not docked.

There really is no reason to crop your dog's ears or dock the tail, so don't do it.

Yes you can but it is usually done 3-5 days after birth before the tail goes from cartilage to bone. It is less painful for the dogs at that age. Once the tail has become bone then most vets recommend not doing it unless it causes a risk to the dog. Talk to your vet about what he/she thinks would be best and good luck

Cropping is done to the ears of a dog. To have the tail done is called docking. Yes, you can dock the tail, but of course it all depends the the puppies age.

You don't crop tails...ears are cropped, tails are docked....also tails MUST be done by the time a puppy is 3 days old.

EARS are "Cropped" tails are "DOCKED". If the breeder didn't get the tails done by the age of 3 days, by a licensed vet, then it should NOT be done.

You can crop the tail without problem, as long as the puppy is very young (within the first 6 weeks, I believe). The only thing it causes, in the short term, is a little balance problem. But the dogs get used to it pretty quickly.

There is no reason to crop the tail at all. A tail is necessary for balance and is an extension of the spinal column. The only reason people do crop, is because they are interested in fighting.. which is horrible, inhumane, and illegal.

You are not supposed to cut their tails. Look up their breed on the net.
