depends where in Plymouth you want to go, various places like council area, private, small local areas and so on, mind you it has plenty of hills.
Eggbuckland mainly private are self owned houses perched on a hill, Crownhill nearest shopping town, asda near by, local bus service to city centre every half hour, house price range 3 bedroom £150,000-£200.000 with garage.
Avoid living near the city centre the closer you get the rougher it gets, avoid areas to live are, whitley, southway (north prospect) efford plymstock, st budeux.
places to try are eggbuckland, crownhill, roborough, wembry and most country areas.
good luck, wouldn't live there again though, to far from work in London, got family down there though any more you need to know e-mail and I'll tell you. I have lived there for twenty years, mainly childhood but could answer most quires

Some area's can be rough as with anywhere, but can be nice.
Its 1 very large Navy base so lots of sailors, seems like anyone who lives there joins the navy!
But if you do go live there, I'd suggest visiting places like Plym bridge which isn't that far from the town but beautiful place to go! The Barbican and the Ho are nice too. If you e-mail me i will send you some pics from when I was there with my ex-girlfriend last July visiting her parents!
My e-mail is im_andywardle@yahoo.co.uk
Plus there's only a short ferry across the Tamar between you and Cornwall, Fave place there was Looe!

its really nice in Plymouth, and such a beautiful area. I do not know if its a good place to live though, because I only stayed there in a hotel for like two days with a friend. I however enjoyed my stay there for that short period of time.

Plymouth is o.k. but Brighton is bigger and better. Better beaches and better bars. The people in Plymouth are nicer though.

WHY???? plymouth is great if you have a penchant for prostitutes or sailors. it's also good if you're in to drugs and shoplifting... aesthetically, it's a concrete jungle with mud flats for a coastline. compare this with brighton and i ask again - WHY??
