If your question is about food, you should have the two Chicago specialties: Pizza (Chicago Style) and Hot Dogs (Chicago Style)
Get a Pizza at Pizzeria Due or Gino's East or Giordanos.
Get a hot dog at any local spot (or try Gold Coast dogs - many locations) and ask for "Everything on it."

Here is also a short list of great restaurants (I've left off the ridiculously expensive or hard to get into):
Frontera Grill - Mexican
Sushi SambaRio - South American / Asian
Opera - Asian
Marche - French
MK - American
Chicago Chop House - Steak
Mia Francesca - Italian (the best!!)

There are dozens more people might list. They are all good.
Pick one and go.

Lake shore drive, the museums alone are enough reason to go there but there is so much to see and do in that part of Chicago. Have a good time.

Catch the Cubs, even if you are not a baseball fan, you will love the people. I hope you have the whole month because you would need it to see and do a great deal of it. Oh and eat down town, and in the north west burbs, you might gain 500 lbs but it's worth it.

Navy Pier, Wrigley Field, take a ride on the loop, Sears Tower. Also, check out the House of Blues and Harry Caray's. Also, there is a cool bowling alley right near the House of Blues.

Well, if you're talking about food, I think that it would be a sin to miss having some Chicago style pizza, preferably from Giordano's. I think theirs is the best.

A nice place to go as well, is the Grand Lux Cafe. It's on Michigan Ave, and is a nice place to go if you're doing some shopping around in the area. It looks pretty fancy inside, but you can go wearing jeans, and the prices aren't bad, comparable to any other casual dining restaurant (like Applebee's or TGI Friday's). We went at early lunchtime and didn't have much of a wait (like 5 mins), but I've heard that the wait can be really long.

I hope you enjoy your trip! :)

I grew up in Gurnee! If you end up going to Six Flags Great America, eat at Salutos afterward. I've been to all of the famous down town pizzerias and they just don't measure up in comparison. Also if you go to Gurnee, check out Gunree Mills. That mall is HUGE. It even have an ice rink in it! The laser tag is pretty good to.
