My baby is only 17 months old and I can't leave her alone for a second with out her eating paper. She eats like healthy 17 month old should, but even right after she eats if she sees paper she will eat it. I get worried that the paper she eats may be bad for her. And it is hard to keep your eyes on her at all times.

you aren't doing anything wrong. it is natural for a baby to chew stuff. it is in their mouth and they really don't know how to spit since from birth u have been wiping food off her chin and shoving it back in so she will swallow the paper. watch out for little objects or u may end up with a human piggy bank lol. tell her no when she does this and give her a teething ring out of the freezer or a fat stick pretzel to ease her pain. she is teething. just cos the gums are not red or white doesn't mean the teeth aren't moving around, growing and trying to come out anyway. is she drooling a lot too? that is another sign of teething. if she goes back to chew the cot again tell her no again and move her away. you may have to swat her pamper to get her attention, the noise will make her cry. it doesn't have to hurt. telling her no and not giving in is the best remedy. good luck. if u don't discipline her now u will have a terrible two baby and a horrid teen. she probably got scolded by the teacher and had the book taken away at play group. peer pressure starts very young. and u will find kids at any age react more positively to everyone else but u. the reason is they don't see the other person as often and they know your quirks. if i nag 3 or 4 times u give in type stuff. good luck

lol I'm sorry, but the way you worded this sprung up a funny visual image of a lil cutie stuffing paper in her mouth right when mommy's not looking and it made me chuckle. However, I know you are very serious about this and very worried.

I would definitely have to disagree with the Tobasco comment...yuck! That could be harmful to the baby, as it could get in her eyes or cause her tummy aches. Perhaps the best thing to do is keep all paper products on hard to reach shelves, and if she does happen to get to something, sternly say "NO!" and make it clear that you are upset with her. at 17 months, they are at the age where they are yearning to be rebellious, but they are quite intelligent and will sense when mommy's mad. Try to reinforce her when she walks by a paper product or plays with one without sticking it in her mouth. At this age, kids just have these quirks. For example, my nephew is 18 months and he cannot keep his hands out of his bellybutton. Anyway, Good luck:)

normal paper isn't bad for a baby to eat. It doesn't taste that good to us, but most babies are just putting something in their mouths, because that is what babies do.
Try getting an area where you baby can play, but have a gate or fence of some sort that she can't get out of (I used some large pillows stacked up in front of a heavy box). You can keep this area picked up of little pieces of paper and your baby will be alot safer.
Also try putting a small bowl of cheerios down on the floor. She may see them and start eating them and forget about the paper. Don't put alot in the bowl or when she dumps the bowl you will be picking them up all over the house.
Have fun!!!

You need to treat it as if it were a chemical right now and watch her at all times. Keep all paper out of reach. Magazine paper contains small traces of lead so you do have to worry because you don't know exactly what is in paper. It can also be a choking hazard. She will eventually grow out of this phase but for now, give her appropriate things to chew on like a teething toy or a wet cloth.

oh my i DON'T really have an answer but I am worried this is where my 8 month old is heading. She loves paper. I mean she sticks all sorts of stuff in her mouth of course but if she sees paper she makes a beeline for it. I know before she will put any toy in her mouth she will look for paper. LOL I thought she would grow out of it but now I wonder!!! Good luck

all you got to do is keep the paper out of reach. if she gets her hands on the paper and tries to eat it, take it away from her and say, ''No baby'' and put it somewhere else. hope this works!

Keep your paper in one room in the house like an office or even in your bedroom.

its not bad for her to eat paper. Just watch her and make sure there's no paper around that's all you can do with little ones. They get into practically everything! But they are just so cute and sweet, and its hard to stay mad at them.
Good luck!

put everything out of reach or maybe put her in play pen if you can't keep an eye on her. She doesn't know any better and this age so punishment will do nothing.
