So he could march in the Gay Pride Parade without being distracted by all the images of naked men in the windows.

Agreed. Times Square had more character back then. I liked it when tourists were afraid to come here. Some still are, you can read the trepidation in their eyes. It's fun to make them think New Yorkers are scary and rude, when the truth is we are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. You just need to look past the surface gruffness that you need to have to survive in this town.

Its horribly Disneyfied! No shabby, tacky, wink-wink, real life characters, only mickey mouse. I'm glad to see someone knows what I"m talking about

New Yorker for 59 years.

As to why? Its the White Breading of America, bland is best.
Guys and Dolls never would have had a chance.

Hey, Brooklyn IS New York, and the only people who can afford Manhattan either are living in their deceased Grandmas apartment, or came from Kansas to work at Corporate.

While I don't like the new Disneyfied Times Square that much, I do think it's better than having a bunch of porno theaters, prostitutes, drug dealers, theives and gangs -- a lousy image to present to the rest of the world. All those tourists there now may be a little lame, but they bring millions of dollars ino the city.

Some character. I dont miss the days of litter strewn prostitute filled, skeezy peep show viewers, and general scumminess of the old days.
