you should check with your airline and the airport you are flying out of

but those sound like they would be fine
(do the makeup brushes have pointed ends - then maybe you should put them in your suitcase and take those cheap sponge ones for on the plane)

I fly to Europe and South America regularly, so I'm used to dealing with international customs and security screenings. It's not much different than flying domestically, but with all of the new regulations it can be confusing.
All of your makeup that's in the form of a powder or solid, like cake foundation and blush, and even items like sticks of eyeliner or lip liner, and (tube) lipstick are all completely acceptable carry-on items. Your brushes, eyelash curlers and other beauty tools are also permitted. In fact, you can even take tweezers, cuticle cutters, nail files and nail clippers in your carry on bag.
Liquid foundation, liquid lip gloss, mascara, make-up removers, creams and lotions (as well as shampoo, conditioner, deodorant and toothpaste) are allowable in carry-on as long as they are in 3 oz or smaller containers. Most make up and travel sized toiletries meet this requirement, but if you're in doubt, just check the package label, which should tell you the size.
All of your liquid items, in their 3 oz containers, need to be placed in a separate quart sized (or smaller) plastic bag. When you go through the security check point, you'll be asked to remove this bag from your carry on and pass it through the x-ray machine separately. Ziploc and others make these sized bags, and they're easy to find at your local grocery store. A quart bag is just a little bigger than the standard sandwich sized bag.
The only catch is that you can only have 1 of the quart sized plastic bags per person, so if you plan on bringing a lot of make up, you may be best off carrying-on only the essentials and checking everything else. Don't forget - you can always put extra bottles, or larger sized bottles, of liquid items into your checked baggage. There's no limit on how much make up, toiletries and other liquids you can pack in your checked luggage.
With regards to a pen - go for it! Pens and pencils are completely acceptable to bring in your carry on luggage. So is standard electronic equipment, like an iPod or other MP3 player, discman or walkman, which are great for making long flights go by faster. Just be sure to follow the flight attendant's instructions regarding when to power up, or turn off, these devices.
Enjoy your trip!

The TSA was given the power by the (anti) Patriot Act to ensure that you are safe, you must investigate the rules and such before going on the plane, asking on a forum will get you unreliable answers.
Check out the TSA's web site.
I would suggest that you take nothing with you on baord that you can turn into a weapon- shoe laces, credit cards, pop sycle stick, belts, pencils, hard soled shoes, a rolled up magazine, and even a pair of pants can all be turned into a weapon- course the TSA thinks nail clippers can be turned into a weapon, I can't see that and I know I have confused a bunch of people with credit card as a weapon.
Good luck, and safe travels to you

You should be able to take a pen with no problem, just in case make sure that it's not a pen that you mind losing if you confiscate. You can take make up brushes and powder. The foundation would have to be in a very small qty if it's liquid. I think it's nothing over 4oz right now. Again, if it's make up that is expensive and you would mind being confiscated, check it in your baggage to be better safe than sorry.
