I AM NOT SAYING ALL, just some and quite a few that I have met why do they feel that they should impose their belief system on others? Half of them don't follow every rule of their bible (when it comes to A LOT of them that I have met that “not judging" thing goes right out of the door), they tell you that your religion is wrong and your not doing this right or that right and no bases for what they believe other than that bible which has been tampered with a million times since it's origination. So please explain to me how they can tell people that what is right or wrong when their book is full of inconsistencies?

There is no transmigration of individual souls, but through the law of karma, one's wholesome or unwholesome intentions become imprinted in the mind. Negative mental states persist through continual rebirth until one's intentions become wholesome. Once fully enlightened, one is liberated from rebirths, reaching a state of absolute selflessness resulting in ultimate bliss called Nirvana--the "Deathless State." One becomes Buddha (or one with Buddha). Some Buddhists, especially modern Western, don't emphasize or believe in literal rebirth.

Carol M I'm not talking abou this forum I'm talking about in life in general. I am saying in my life and travels I have met so many christians are hell bent on pushing their belief system down my throat but won't listen to my viewpoint but anyone else's for that matter. It just seems you can talk to some of them NOT ALL of them just a lot that I have met. And I was hoping for an intelligent answer as to why? I am not saying that my way is right for everyone of course not. But I am saying it is right for ME and I just don't understand how people can be so un-willing to accept that their way is not right for everyone.

Christine5 I'm not saying anyone has to be perfect, but people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. The Christians that have crossed my path have this double standard of your "sin" is worst than my "sin". Some have a theory of don't do as I do, do as I say, meaning forget about what they do but look at how you have wronged.

How do I know the holy bible has been tampered with oh my goodness you can three different bibles and flip to the exact same verse and they will all be worded differently. Take and Religion course and you will learn that King James himself altered the books hence why the bible is called "THE KING JAMES VERSION", because he altered the (took away from and added to) the bible therefore it is not as Holy as some people want to believe.

I agree. Most seem overzealous to tell you all about their beliefs but won't bother to listen to anything you may believe. What they believe is truth and you are lost and will go to hell about sums up most conversations.
Why they do that I will never know. Do they think it's an effective way to win people over to their viewpoint? It is beyond annoying the way they just dismiss any other views.

No Christian should ever impose their belief on anynone. They may share things with you or invite you, but never impose. as far a following every rule, that is correct, we don't. We try,but we are all humans that are weak and stumble or fall at times, regardless of our faith. that is why Christ came, because we couldn't do it alone. That however does not eliminate the need to try our best, even knowing that we will fall short. As far a judgement goes, no Christian has the right to judge anyone for anything on a spiritual level. If you sin and I judge you, what right do I have to ask for forgiveness when I sin? I am not willing to cast the first stone. Don't worry about what others say about your religion. The odds are they know nothing about it but hear say. Let your heart and mind be the guide. We are all on a journey in this life. Hopefully when we stray from the path we can find our way back. Christians can be defind as love. I could never understand why some insist on downing the faith of other Christians. They are all the same family. I am sure that in your family you have disagreements and misunderstandings too. Than does not mean that you are not family and surely you would not comdem them for a different opinion. Try to remember that Christianity goes back to the time of Jesus Christ. It didn't start yesterday. No matter what changes have been done by man, and please, if you do nothing else, do not judge the Christian church founded by Christ 2000 years ago for the actions of human beings, even those supposedly leading the Church..

I'm a Christian and I have to say, I agree with you. I honestly don't know why some feel the need, to take it upon themselves, to "save" everyone. It clearly states in the Bible that we are all sinners and have fallen short of the glory of God. It also clearly states that each man will stand in judgment before God; which means it is not for me to judge you and what you believe. Part of being a Christian is to share the word but that sometimes gets overshadowed by our human tendency to be "right," which is pride and not a blessed character trait.
Now, as far as the Bible being inconsistent, that is where I respectfully disagree. Even though it's been interpreted many times, it is still the word of God and that cannot be imperfect. So I'm sorry you haven't met any Christians who are open to sharing ideas and philosophies, but I can promise you that we do exist.

It's a hard question to answer, because I really think they do it for different reasons. There are those who sincerely believe that God wants them to spread the Word and save the souls of non-believers. Then at the opposite end of the spectrum are those who just want to control everyone around them through oppression and fear, and religion is a convenient tool for that.
Honestly, I think the great majority just need to justify their own belief structure by having more and more people believe the same thing, thus making it not just a personal belief, but a universal truth.

Well, Christians have had a long history of forcing their religion onto others. The Native Americans, for example, also the Mayans, but this was along time ago. Being a christian myself, I believe that if you have a different religion, that's fine. I actually rather like some of the other religions, because I like some of the aspects of them (hence my yahoo user name). I think that Christians who try to force their religion on others these days are really just resorting back to what we used to do, instead of thinking about the right thing to do these days is. Its a free country and people are entitled to their own religion and opinions. And my opinion of people who seem almost overly religious...
those that seem to believe the most are the ones that need the most help believing.
- Yes, I think that about some Christians.

For one, the Bible is not filled with inconsistencies. All of the prophesies in the OT regarding the Christ were fulfilled by Jesus. ALL OF THEM!
About the judging. I agree. There are many Christians out there that judge unbelievers, and they are wrong to do so. It says in the Bible that we are not to judge unbelievers, but we are to hold believers accountable for their actions, so they will not be led astray, but we are to do it with a gentle heart.
We spread the Gospel, because it is a commandment from God. Jesus told us to spread the Gospel to the four corners of the earth.
But, He also said to show respect to other's belief systems, way of living, and even the food they eat. Jesus showed the prime example to us by associating with tax collectors, and the scum of the earth, and He treated them with respect.
We are not to throw our faith in people's faces, especially by judging and critisizing them, but if they ask, we tell them.
It's sad, because those who don't follow these teachings of Christ really make a bad name for us sincere Christians.
I appreciate the fact that you emphasized "I AM NOT SAYING ALL". You are a good person for saying that, because you are not lumping all Christians into the same behavior.
The same as Christians should never lump any category of people in the same way. I am a Christian. I have friends who are homosexuals, even a family member. I have friends who are atheists. When my friends go drinking, I go. I might have a glass of wine, or just an iced tea. I never judge them. In fact, I am usually targeted as the designated driver.
But, I must support my contention that the Bible is not filled with inconsistencies. It might have some stuff in it that you don't quite understand, therefore, you think you find contradictions, but if you study deeply, you will find it is consistent.
You might not like what is said in the OT, but remember, the Bible is the inspired word of God, penciled by man, and it is about regular ordinary people, mostly, with faults and many shortcomings. That tells us that God cares about everyone -- even the scum of the earth. We read these stories, and are aghast at the violence, but remember, that is how things were back then. That's how men settled their differences, and they continued to do so until recently. Just a little over 100 years ago, our Wild West had shootouts to settle their differences.
Sounds like you've been hurt by Christians. I'm sorry. I hope you will forgive that person who hurt you, and understand that many many of us feel as I do.

Oh, if only I had a penny for everytime someone asked this question!
I think that the Christians you are referring to are trying to save you because if you are not saved, you are are going to hell. Therefore, you could almost consider it an act of love towards you, because they dont want you to go to hell.
A lot of Christians do not live thier lives the way they should because no one is perfect. A lot of Christians give Christianity a very bad name because they go about preaching, and they dont really understand what it is they are preaching.
I have said once, twice, and I'll say it again.... If Christians actually acted like Jesus (WWJD) then I think a lot more people would be open to Christianity.
Jesus preached to those who would hear, was humble, loving, and had dinner with the tax collectors. (Hardly the example you see from modern day Christians who shout "I am holier than thou" from their doorsteps)

good question..first of all how do you know that the Holy Bible has been tampered or may be did you by any chance read the so called original version? com-on, don't just catch the things what people say out of hatred towards bible. This book was written ages ago and we have to understand certainly that the time and the socio-economic conditions and the train of thought of the people was entirely different from what we have now. so there will be for sure many interpretations and conclusions.
You are not allowed to judge anything. Touch your heart and ask god for guidance, you according to ur personal experience will find the truth.

In Matthew 7:2-5, Jesus warns against judging someone else for their sin when you yourself are sinning even worse. That is the kind of judging Jesus commanded us not to do. If a believer sees another believer sinning, it is their Christian duty to lovingly and respectfully confront the person with their sin (Matthew 18:15-17). This is not judging, but rather pointing out the truth in hope of bringing repentance in the other person (James 5:20). We are to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). We are to proclaim what God's Word says about sin. 2 Timothy 4:2 instructs us, "Preach the Word ; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage — with great patience and careful instruction." We are to "judge" sin, but always with the goal of presenting the solution for sin and its consequences - the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:6).
