because there are lots of fruit that are the same colour and we would get mixed up.

There are too many foods that would all be the same colour, apples and cabbage and lettuce all green. Bananas would have to be called lemons etc. It does seem that the citrus foods are called colours such as oranges, lemons and limes

Apples got their name from Johnny Appleseed which as you will note is not a color. Bananas mean yellow in some ancient language or other.

the fruit lemon is not named for its color. The color "lemon yellow" is named for the fruit. It's not as if one person made up the names for everything all at once and followed some rule book to do it.

Because differnet words for different fruits are borrowed from different languages. BTW Lemon is not a color, yellow is.

so it would have to be light green, dark green, russet coloured etc. Apples... much simpler to have different names for them... golden delicious... cooking ... grannys smith ... pink lady. I could go on.

coz they are if you went to the supermarket and asked for a bag of reds there are so many red fruits you would get god knows what.
