I'm a Catholic and 'faithful' and I do 'believe' in the story of 'The Tower of Babel' but not in any 'literal - it really happened' sense. It is a sort of 'fable' to tell people a good 'story' about why there are so many different ethnicities and languages in the world, and has a 'hint' in it about all of us needing to 'come together' and 'speak the same language' (which I think means 'peace and harmony' and not a spoken tongue). I do not think God would ever do any 'striking' of things like space ships and skyscrapers, because God LOVES ALL OF US, no matter what we 'do' or 'don't do' ... and that includes even the 'evil' people because even they can 'change their ways' and start being better GOOD people.

The truth about the tower of babel has been confused and misinterpreted for a long time now. You see, the tower was never built to reach God and the heavens. It actually had the stars and constellations designed around the top and a large golden throne so that the king could sit in the throne 'as god'.
It was designed so that the king could be god.
That was why God acted as he did.

If the concept of God don't exist, who made the ape that made the gorilla that made the chimp that made you? You who have changed the truth of God into a lie and you instead worship the creature rather than God who created it. You who are misled by every wind of philosophy doctrine of unlearned men as well. As searching in a dark room, looking for a black cat that isn't even there, never having an ending to that search. They die and leave your a$$e$ hanging and you swing on to somebody else. Never satisfied. Prodigal sons and daughters. Your Father, and I don't know why, is still waiting for you to come back home from once while your spirit reside. This sounds more like an atheist: @2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

First off, he did not change the races, only confused the languages, so people scattered and did not stay in the same location. At Genesis 11: 6 God said "Look! They are one people and there is one language for them all, and this is what they start to do. Why, now there is nothing that they may have in mind to do that will be unattainable for them. Come now, let us go down and there confuse their language that they may not listen to one another's language."
All the people were in one location, they were suppose to be filling the earth. By confusing their languages they "scattered over all the surface of the earth".
It mentioned that there was "nothing unattainable for them" this could have been a way to slow down progress according to God's timetable. Look at what advancements have been accomplished in the last 50 years with T.V., Radio, Computers, Sat-elite. The whole world communicating.
God's plan is to destroy the wicked. But it will be all at one time.
The prophecies of the last days, shows we are living in them.

At that time, God didn't want it to happen because it wasn't the right time. So he made it harder for humans to communicate by adding languages. But now God sees it is the right time, and things are okay for people to go to space and build skyscrapers.
Or maybe not. Who can really know what God is thinking? Lol...

The people were not trying to reach God at all, more like trying to be gods. They wanted to "make a celebrated name" for themselves, just like architects do today but the people were really building an entire society of people who were speeding away from God. In confusing the languages, God made it impossible for them to all associate together anymore. Only the birds of one language could flock together. ;) Perhaps by His intervention at that time, it prevented all these ambitious ones from creating nuclear weapons sooner!

Why ask why? God has His plan and His reasons for everything...therefore we are to just give Him glory and know that He works all things together for the good of those who love Him. God can strike us whenever he chooses...but remember God is merciful right now. And when astronauts go into space are they trying to "reach" God? No, they are just exploring other planets and creation. I find it funny when people ask these type of questions....God knew the hearts of those people in the Bible....and He had planned to "scatter" them from the beginning.

Are you serious? If you are, then it's about intent. They weren't building a tower to reach God, they were building it to rival Him. We don't build skyscrapers or go into space to try and show-up God or prove he doesn't exist, we build skyscrapers for practicality and design and space-travel in the name of science.

Because people aren't going it into space to look for God, they go there to look for martians. And we build skyscrapers as office buildings and living places, not to try to reach to God.
Instead of focusing on why God doesn't do things, maybe people should focus on the things He DOES do, like speak to us, give us the free gift of salvation, and making a perfect plan for our lives.

We dont' go into space to find God. We dont build skyscrapters to reach God. Through the word of God we know where He is and how to reach Him the way He intended us to. Through prayer. I dont need a space ship or a sky scrapter to reach God. He lives inside my heart. Praise the Lord!
