Humans are probing deeper and deeper into the regions of space. If signs of life are found elsewhere in universe, even if they are just fossils, what will become of the Creation theory and the faiths based around it? Will Christians and Catholics change their religion and books to explain the new findings? Do you think it would have any impact on any other religion? I'm not looking for a "No thats not possible," answer, just give me a good idea of what would happen IF signs of life were found elsewhere in the universe. What would your religion do?

There are so many "ifs" in debate including the evolutionists side, but i believe that it would depend on what kind of sign, finding fossils of insects wouldn't really make any difference or force my religion to "do" anything? Finding bones on the other hand might make me get into serious discussion with my spiritual advisors but it still wouldn't shake my faith in intelligent design.

The catholic church teaches that there can be life on other planets, as long as we believe that God created that life. Our religion would stick to the fact that God is the creator, and if He made the earth, then by all means he could have made other planets and solar systems with life like ours, as for now....there are mysteries in our world we don't understand, and I'm content to study that before I try and find other life on other planets!

I just want to note that we have always believed that and our beliefs havn't changed because of such an event. It has always been possible that god created other life, but won't it be interesting to find out if there are aliens once we die?

Why would Christianity have to change all of there beliefs? I haven't really found anything in the Bible that eliminates life on other planets. God is SO BIG and SO CAPABLE of anything... Time itself is incapsulated by God. He is the Alpha and Omega. There isn't any reason that He couldn't have another complete solar system out there just like us. That doen't mean I think there is, but I'm not going to put God in a box. He's always blowing the lid off!

I'm pagan and it doesn't bother me in the least that there are signs of life out there. I've always thought it was arrogant to believe we're the only life in the entire universe.

I'm happy to embrace the idea, and I think that the only religions that will be affected are those in which their belief is the only way to "God"

This is an excellent question, btw. I wish we could award points other than stars for it.

I don't think Christians still insist that the world is flat or that the sun revolves around Earth so I imagine that in time they will have to face the other realities of the world. They may do it kicking and screaming but anything else would surely lower their numbers IMO

My religion generally beleives in evolution, Big Bang, etc but presumes that God is responsible for such scientific events. It works for us as we do not have to deny facts to keep our faith.

God gave mankind what it needed for life on this planet... I have no idea what God has given the seeds He has planted on other Planets... but I hope to find out one day... I am not concerned about it... just courious..... there will be no affect at all upon The True Christain Faith... Our Faith is for those of This Planet.

Though many "religious" individuals will have their egos shaken for sure when contact is made with "other" life forms

I´m not religious, but they just would say God wanted it to happen that way
They did that with evolution, first the human came out of nowhere, and now they say as they had to change it because science promed we come from the monkeys, it was a god deccision to make the monkey become human, the most stupid ones don´t even accept that.
Sorry about the spanish grammar.

In 6000 years science hasn't found one "true" thing that religion can't explain. We have never changed our Bible to suit ours or anyone Else's needs. Why would we need to change them for space fossils? Science likes to call each "strange shaped head" a new spices and call it a missing link. I thank God there are NO missing links in my faith.

If you boil it down to the last fact, and evolution is right and I am wrong, I STILL DON'T LOOSE! So why should I jump on your bandwagon?

They will create (pun intended) a story that allows them to continue to believe what they wish. Something like, God was practicing on those other planets first. Even if we find intelligent life that has never heard of Jesus or God or has some radically different beliefs some will say we were chosen to bring the word to these poor heretics and that was why God allowed us to design space travel or something along these lines. *sigh*

First off the Roman Catholic Church does not deny evolution.
And in the theory of evolution, how can something come from nothing, so there must have been a creator.
