Do you think China will invade Taiwan in the near future?
Their massive military build-up is troubling, and they seem to be doing everything possible the level the playing field in case of a conflict with the US.....
If they do will the US intervene? Should we?

I have always believed that China would invade Taiwan. It belongs to China, anyway.
They should have the right to claim it.
It's like if Hawaii decided to leave the US.
I see no difference.

The U.S. must have valid reasons to involve itself in the China-Taiwan issue. Going back in history, Taiwan was indeed a province of China. So China have the sovereign right over Taiwan. In fact, the United Nations does not include Taiwan among its member nations in recognition of this fact. Taiwan is no different in its treatment than Hongkong, which was officially returned to China's sovereignty in 1997 after being a British colony since 1842. So Taiwan officially remain a Chinese province unless it is granted a formal independence by China.
Any foreign intervention on behalf of Taiwan in this issue is clearly an affront on China.

I hope the U.S. would intervene. Then when our good old boys kick some Chinese butt, we would show the world we still are number 1!
BTW- If China thinks they can scare us by threatening us with the use of nuclear weapons ( like one of their generals did in 2005), they should remember who is the only country to have used nuclear weapons :)

mcc123, don't forget that when you used it during WWII you were the only ones with that technology. If Japan had that same bomb back then and with mentality they had...
It's a different time now and I have no doubt that China would fire away as much as they can.
