Probably just dry skin. Find a puppy shampoo that contains oatmeal. Make sure it is a shampoo made specifically for puppies. The oatmeal relieves dry and itchy skin. Also call your vet and see what they suggest.

I would let your vet answer that. It can be simple dry skin...it could be a host of other ailments. It could be the puppies diet. It can also be breed related as some breeds tend to be flaky where others are oily. Rather than guess...get a vet check up and go from there.

My vet put my dog on Safflower oil years ago as it is the cheapest oil out there to help them with the essetial fatty acids they lack in commercial feed. Bathing a dog, especially a puppy should not be done on a frequent schedule. It strips the dogs coat of natural oils and dries them out further. If your dog can be wiped clean on occasion with baths no more frequent than once a month, that would be best.

It sounds like dandruff. You want to go to your local pet store and pick up a bottle of Puppy Oatmeal shampoo. Only give him a bath once a month. Use lukewarm water and keep it out of his eyes. Make sure to dry him well after your done.

Also what kind of food do you have him on? You want to keep him on dry but try switching him to Natures Recipe Puppy and mixing a little canola oil on it. You can find that food as Pet Smart or Pet-Co. Natures Recipe is all natural and easy to digest its very healthy and the canola oil will help with the skin. Natures Recipe gives a nice shinny coat and cuts down on shedding, stool and bad breath.

First, DO NOT listen to the people telling you to bath this puppy often. Dogs get very dry skin (to the point that it will crack) and dry coats from being bathed way too much, especially in the winter.

Give this puppy about 1 tsp. of veg. oil on his food daily and his problem will clear up.

When you absolutely have to bath him, use dog shampoo and make sure it's rinsed out very thoroughly.

This is very common to puppies of that age, as they are so quickly growing their new coats. . It should go away in a month or so.

Human babies lose the baby hair they were born with, and have flakey scalp for a while as new hair grows in. Puppies go through the same thing. Nothing to worry about.

It just sounds like his skin is really dry, probably itchy too. Get some Oatmeal Shampoo from your pet store. The Oatmeal is specially made for dogs with skin problems. It will soothe the dry skin and itching. If that doesn't work, then I would have your vet suggest something.

It's probably just dry skin. Don't bathe him more than once a month and use a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. He also needs a good quality dog food to help improve skin and coat. Nutro Natural Choice is a good one and is guarenteed to do this.
You can also give him one fish oil tablet daily to help keep his skin and coat more moist.

my baby had white flakes all over his body too - and his hair is black-so, i practically cried because i thought he was sick. i was told by the vet to bathe him with some shampoo - provided by them - it was like a shampoo and conditioner. it worked. it gradually got less and less. in addition, the vet told me to rub a little powder all over his body (while his hair is dry)... and evnetually my baby grew out of it - but it felt like it took forever - i want to say at least a couple of months - 6-7 months? i think. it's been a while.. he's now almost 4years old. :) but don't worry.. if you've taken him to the vet and he/she is not worried, you shouldn't be either... :)

It's common, but it could also be related to food. Make sure you are feeding a high quality food that's low in grains.
