Chronic is long term, usually a gradual onset and a good example of a chronic condition is acne. Comes on gradual and lasts for years. Acute is rapid onset and normally does not last for a long time. A good example is Acute appendicitis, you feel fine, normal and then BAM, you are doubled over in pain from an inflamed appendix. Hope this helps...

"Chronic" conditions are ones that one has to live with or suffer as a result from for a long time- potentially until the end of their lives. "Acute" would be the opposite- meaning the condition would be able to be treated & cured.

Acute is fast in onset and usually of short duration, ie temporary. Chronic means longer-term, with gradual onset and slow changes.
