Well, if you have a real reason to get out of it, you can postpone your appearance on a jury, but why don't you want to do your civic duty and be on the jury? I mean its part of what is signed up for when one is an American citizen. And what kind of bad things have you heard about being on a jury? Afraid of the defendant?
Oh and don't listen to gemini because they can issue an arrest warrant for you for failure to appear. Hopefully someone will arrest this non-participating citizen soon enough. Thanks and have a nice day.

It is boring waiting in the jury room. So, if you go, take something to keep yourself occupied while you are waiting to be called in.
If there is a hardship reason, such as no pay for jury duty, medical hardship or the like just go to the county courthouse and explain to them why you can't serve. I was called once, and wanted to serve as I find it interesting, but I simply could not afford to do it. I got a letter from my boss stating they don't pay during jury duty, and I was excused.
Don't ignore the summons! They may not come after you the first or second time, but if you make a habit of it, you could get into trouble.

First off....Jury duty is your civic responsibility..you should serve to the best of your ability...If you are tired of hearing of juries awarding millions of dollars for minor accidents then by skipping out you are adding to the problem.
OK, to get off a jury here are several real easy things to do. One you can ignore the summons, some time in the distant future they might swear out a bench warrant for you...but usually not. Two, you can show up and a lot of times they won't use you simply because you feel a particular way about any issue...one easy way out is to pretend to be biased against a particular race or religion. Three, before they select you to be in the jury pool, the ask some background info....if you have a judge, lawyer or policeman in the family it is usually grounds for dismissal.
Again..I feel strongly that people should report and participate in the jury process..imagine how you would feel if your life was in the hands of people that didn't have anything better to do..which is what our juries are coming to

I stay in Wi and that i've got in basic terms gotten observed as for jury accountability for the 6th time. It was once you ought to be observed as each and every 2 years and then in some unspecified time interior the destiny it went to each 4 years. In Wisconsin you're chosen randomly for the duration of the motorized motor vehicle dept. With the style of situations i've got been observed as i'm guessing there are multiple those with a revoked license. Milwaukee is a reasonably large city and that i could have faith getting picked 6 situations, while i understand lots of people who've in no way been picked, is amazingly long odds. The little bit they pay you for jury accountability gets eaten up between, parking, gasoline and lunch funds.

There's many ways to get excused but it's getting harder and harder. If you just go through the process then it's really not that bad. I ended up on a trial for two weeks. About 50 of us went into a trial for the atty's to pick the jury. Almost everyone had an excuse as to why they couldn't do it. We had to sit there until 12 were picked. It lasted about 6 hours. When it came to my turn everyone was sick of sitting there so I didn't want to hold them up. I ended up on the trail and went to jury duty for two weeks for a murder case. It's not that bad because you're days are so short and you get a two hour lunch. Your day is over like at 1-2:30pm. Compared to real work it's a breeze. The only downfall is not getting paid enough. Oh well.

You have to reply. If you're in school you can be dismissed. If you end up having to go, just tell them in the interview if the man is black, he's guilty. And if he's white and has brown hair, he's guilty. No matter what nationality, color, or religion. Basically just come off a prejudice and they'll let you go.

Oh I have been through this. Just don't reply. They are not going to call you and even if you did, you can say you didn't get the letter. You didn't sign for it. Just throw the letter in the garbage and don't call the number it tells you too. And that's it.

There are consequences for not replying to the letter. Just tell them you are biased in your opinions about what ever the trial is about. They will let you off.
