It means that it is not really white gold. Some jewelry stores(such as a mall jewel store) claim that there is no such thing as white gold. They just sell you yellow gold and have it dipped to make it look like white gold. I had this problem with my wife's ring as well. If you can take it to a respected jeweler and not a chain store have them resurface the ring. My wife's ring changed from white to yellow about 2 months after I bought it for her. We took to a family friend who happens to be a jeweler, he explained to me that the store sold me yellow gold dipped to look white, that it was not done right, and then he resurfaced it. Now two years later it looks just as good. So if it done right it will last. He also said that there is real white gold. So I bought my wife's wedding ring there from him and it is beautiful and never turned yellow. So chances are the jewelry store sold you yellow gold and told you it is white gold. Go talk to them make them resurface your ring free of charge.

Yellow gold is dipped to make it white gold something a lot of people don't know. I am inclined to agree with the person that said you may have a chemical in your system that eats away at platings.....or possible you are working with something that will damage white gold....take your ring back to your jeweler and have them check it. I am sure that you went with your BF to help pick this ring out so you know what you have so I wouldn't worry about it being cheap.

It does not mean that the ring is fake or even that it is low quality. The ring may be fading due to other factors. What do you do for a living? If you use your hands a lot it could cause it to wear off faster. Maybe it came into contact with some kind of chemicals, such as a potent cleaner of some sort.

First off, white gold does not fade, neither does yellow. The shine may disappear if you don't clean it regularly, but it doesn't fade. I encourage you and your fiance to return the ring. Depending on where it was purchased, you should be able to get a legit explanation of why the sudden change of color after a month. If a fake ring was purchased, you may be able to get a refund. I hope it was bought a legitimate merchandiser.

Take it to a jeweler and ask to use the "loope" (the magnifier). Inside the shank of the ring you should see 14K or 10K stamped in. Ask the jeweler to probe the diamond. This will show if it 's a true diamond. Ask the jeweler if someone there (or if they could recommend somebody) can appraise the ring. You may have to pay for this service.

May just need cleaning; take it to the jewellers. As an aside, that is why you girls need to stop following fads with the white gold and platinum and stick to good, classic yellow gold, which lasts forever (like, the symbolic point of a ring).

White gold has nickel in it to make it "white". Some people are allergic to the nickel (which makes their skin rash) or the acids in their skin will react with the nickel which will affect the appearance. Talk to the jeweler where you purchased it and see what he/she recommends. 14 karats simply means it has other alloys mixed with the gold to make it harder. If it were 24 karat gold, it would be too soft.

white gold does not "fade" in a month's time. My mother's rings are all white gold, and they are over 35 years old - they are still white.
It sounds like your setting is an overlay of some kind. And it means that its cheap. :-(

What you have there is not "white gold" (which is really a corrosion free gold and platinum alloy) but is like an electroplated base metal that LOOKS like it. And if it's yellowing this soon the plating is pretty thin!

It is NOT normal for something that is solid gold to "Turn". You have a fake or "vermeil" ring - gold over a nonprecious metal.
I have a white gold necklace that I've worn everyday for over 20 years and it has never faded or turned in any way.
