Here is California you could appear before the judge, explain the reason and ask for additional time to do your community service. You could also ask if you could just pay a fine instead.

Over my years in law enforcement I have seen several people fail to complete their sentences as required and come back to ask the judge for more time or a different sentence. In some cases the judge will agree with the person's reasoning and work something out. In some cases, the judge will just order them arrested and have them "pay off" their sentence in jail time.

If that's a risk your not willing to take, it would probably be better to complete your sentence as ordered.

Community service for a stop sign ticket, you really beat the system didn't you. How much was the ticket, I'm guessing a couple of grand may be?

Problem is you just can't fit it in. Well, how about going back to the judge and asking to pay the fine.

Or you could just forget about it and get arrested on a bench warrant I'm the judge would be glade to see again.

If I were you, I'd suck it up and do what you said you would. When I used to bailiff our municipal court, it got so old to hear the excuses. Most judges are pretty soft hearted to a point, but about the 358th time they hear "my dog's puppies would go hungry if I went and did my community service", they get a little tired of it.
Unless you have a signed death certificate for yourself signed by the local County Coroner, or a Medical Doctor (and the coroner did not want an autopsy), I would do what YOU agreed to do.
You call community service crap, but you are the one who agreed to do this "crap" so get it over with already.

You can ask, but you just might wind up ticking the Judge off. 9 hour days still leave you 15 hours to do your Community Service. I'd recommend that you just do as you agreed.

First of all this is not a game you were ordered to complete service by a judge, go ahead and make up excuses. I am sure the judge will be real happy to hear your stupid excuses.

"oh, boo hoo! I don't have time!"

You have Saturdays don't you? Go to your local humane society and pitch in!
