I want to order a new 2007 Mustang convertable, but would like to get it in a custom color. I am a seasoned negotiator when it comes to new car dealers, however, I only ever bought new cars from dealer stock. I have never actually custom ordered one with the specs I want from the factory. Is the price still as negotiable or must I pay MSRP? Also, about how long does a factory delivery take from time of order? What do I do with my trade in while the car is ordered? And finally, I love a color available in another model line (the F-150), but would like our Mustang in that color - which is not offered in the Mustang line. Is this possible? or would I be better off just getting it in a plain color, and going to a body shop to have the color I want, and take delivery from dealer stock? Thanks!!

I used Autobytel.com and they give you a price far below MSRP, then deliver it right to your house for free on a flat bed so there is no mileage. They work from invoice up, not MSRP down. You also get the price the dealer pays for all options and packages. It took about 6 weeks and I got everything I wanted on it. Since it is coming from the manufacturer, you will probably pay their price for your custom color and they would then warrant it. If you have it painted at the body shop, you may void the paint warranty.

To answer your question...if it does not come in that color from the factory you can not get it...best bet is to order it in a color they have and get it custom painted. Second the dealer will most likely not negotiate too much with you because they would rather sell you a car off the lot than order one for you. FYI markup in the mustang gt convertible is around $2500 depending on equipment. It will take approximately 8-10 weeks if you have one built depending on how backed up the factory is. You will drive your trade in until your vehicle is delivered to the dealership. If your looking to haggle, go into the dealership on the last day of the month about 2 hrs before closing and try to deal on one of their in stock vehicles...Good luck!

You can still negotiate, but you have much less leverage.

With vehicle from dealer stock, the dealer owns the car, thus pays interest on it. He has incentive to sell it as fast as he can. When you order, its basically ordering it direct from Ford and the dealer is just the drop point.

If the color is not available in the Mustang line, you can't get it in that color even if its available on another Ford product.

I ordered a custom 2005 Mustang GT. I didn't get to negotiate on it. :( As far as how long, it took a really long time, like 2 months. Don't hold your breath! As far as the trade-in, I had to use my girlfriend's car while I waited for my car to come in. Good luck!

The engine may last 500,000 miles in that mechanics dreams but the car certainly won't. There are very few cars that will. And the reason this car is so clean is that someone has had it cleaned and detailed. No 1999 Mustang has an engine compartment that clean. Look for one with fewer miles on it.

Right now, this car is selling for about $300 below sticker, on average.

Go to Kelly's blue book and type in your car. It will show you MSRP, dealer invoice, and what you can expect to pay.

They will be making the car for you, you can't haggle on that. I'm sorry, its not like they're trying to get something off their lot.

You give your car as a trade-in. I don't know exactly how that works, but I'm sure they'll try to get your car once you agree to trade it in.
