I am only 15 years old and have started an induction at a gym qutie near me. Earlier in 2006, I started to lift weights and do a little weight training. I also started other workouts because i wanted to get stronger. But I stopped because I heard that it stunts your growth. Is this true? I also stopped for another reason. This reason is because i can't gain any weight and am only 9 stone, and my height is only about 5 foot 10 inches. so really, my two questions are:
*Does weight training stunt growth?
*and Why am I so thin because I eat like a horse!

This is the deal. Training weights too early will absolutely stunt your growth. If you make your bones bear weight on a regular basis, your skeleton will stop its natural growth, and start to adapt itself to bearing weight instead of growing to full size. At your age, you should do plyometric and calesthenic exercises such as push ups, pull ups, burpees, sit ups, and crunches. These exercises only cause you to lift the weight of your own body.

As for your weght, you are young, and your metabolism is moving at an extremely rapid pace, so anything that you eat will be very quickly burned, making it hard for you to gain any weight. Just be patient, and as you grow, everything will mature and become ready for you to get in shape.

Yeah, it COULD stop growth. Some people build way too much back muscle and chest muscles that it restricts the spine. It isn't too common, but it does happen. Just exercise and lift lightly for a year or two. And You may eat like a horse, but it could be food that won't make you gain weight. People also say they eat a lot when they really don't. You should count your calories everyday and see if you can get it about 2100. And make sure you are having enough protein. You're only 15 so you don't need to be huge yet. Just take care of yourself and wait until you are almost done growing to really start getting big. You can get toned now though. Just don't get crazy. Good Luck.

Lifting weights is good at your age. But my personal trainer stressed that any person who has not yet stopped growing use lighter weights. This gets your body used to the movements with something heavier than the body's own weight. You can also focus on just toning what muscle you have already and stretch them often. Work on endurance/stamina for now. This will pay out forever on. As soon as you stop growing your body is ready to bulk up in stages, not all at once.

no, it does not stunt your growth, but will help metabolize more calories than someone who does not. Sounds like u already have a high metabolic rate, and lifting weights increases it even more

as you lift more weights your legs get squished into a fine-grain salt. The salt is useful for baking all kinds of cookies including oatmeal and chocolate chip deluxe.
