Of course I believe it. Why not? If it wasn't doing what it was created to do, what worth it? Same with us. YBIC

It was original sin that cursed the fig tree, not God (Jesus); He merely quickened the decay process, which was already in place. It was the penalty for disobedience to God's law, that caused sin to enter into our world. If we don't have penalties for our wrongs, then how do we learn, grow, or live; for all would be chaos (hell). When you hear of the fig tree in Mark 11 & Matt. 21 it is an enigmatic occurence, especially with respect to the last days of His life: (Is it a teaching of the last days of the Temple, of the Diaspora, etc.).
I see some teaching of the importance of baring fruit, what good is the plant if it doesn't bare fruit. Should it not be tilled back to the soil for the next plants success? Ultimately the fig tree is a plant & goes through a growth & decay cycle like our own bodies. If we live a life rooted in unhealthy behavior we too cause our own lives to decay (die).
Thankfully we can be assured that the fig tree withering was done in righteousness & justice because it was our Lord who performed the feat, for truly it was a miracle, that was done in the presence of those with Him. I am sure that they were able to take something extraordinary from it then as we can now.
Alas be assured that we will know it's importance when He comes for us!!! AMEN!!!

A-ha! It was Jesus who cursed the fig tree, not God. So there. :P When Jesus "cursed" the tree, he was killing it as a lesson for his followers regarding faith. That particular fig tree looked like it would have tasty fruit (Jesus was approaching it out of hunger), yet its looks were deceiving, as it turned out not to be bearing any fruit. He cursed it and it withered instantly. In the same way, many who profess to be a Christian are dishonoring God by their beliefs and practices, and they too will incur his wrath.

He did curse the fig tree as a lesson for Israel....AND for ALL those who reject him as Messiah...

" You shall die in your sins if you believe not that I am He (the messiah)". - Jesus Christ
