I would go with some vinyl (faux wood) blinds since they are moisture resistant and won't get damaged by direct sun either. They won't chip, crack, fade, warp, etc.
Or, you could try a product like the Hunter Douglas Silhouette which acts like a blind but has two layers of sheer fabric that filter the light and provide a little more privacy when the slats are open.
A loose, woven wood blind could be nice, too, depending on your taste and decor, but there's a little less flexibility there. They are either up or down, there's no middle ground.
Good luck with whatever you choose. Just go through a reputable dealer in your neighborhood and avoid the big box stores (Home Depot, Lowe's, etc) unless you have a standard size window. You'll get much better customer service, follow up, warranties, etc, if you go through a smaller store that specializes in window treatments.

My guess would be either horizontal or vertical blinds. Lots of places carry them. Cheap ones in white or light tan or gray are the most common ones and are available at most hardware stores or home centers. More attractive ones are of course more expensive and are carried by places like JC Penny, Sears and other home stores and can be very reasonable when they are on sale (nearly all the time). There are even woven bamboo, and carpet like shades, but they are made to block everything and you wouldn't be able to see out of them.

Try Roman Shades - the link below is just to show you an example of what they look like. You can go to a Home Depot or Lowes and talk to someone in that department to get better help with the purchase.

I would suggest you go with faux wood blinds. They really go well with the kitchen interiors and gives you with privacy as well. I have installed them as it goes really great with my kitchen interiors but you have many options like color, shape and many other stuff. I bought them from Blind Depot if you are interested you get window covering at a very reasonable price. Here's a link to there website hope this helps :
