I love my little dog, but I can't sit down without her there, I move her and she comes right back, sometimes it takes 10 times of picking her up and putting her elsewhere. Any clue how to stop this? Don't tell me to put her in a cage...she's never been caged and she's 13 years old.

This dog is my life and my love, but I just ocassionally need a break from the constant lap sitting! I can't sit for two seconds without her...my other dog snuggles up next to me, but this one has to be IN MY LAP.

Dogs are pack animals. Hopefully you are the alpha, and they are wanting to curl up next to you for all those canine reasons. You can make her a special place 'next' to you. She may be old, but she can be taught quickly to only get in your lap when she is asked to.
You're the boss! ;-)

Toy breeds were bred to sit in people's laps - it's hard to fight decades (or more) of genetics!
Provide her with a bed or blanket to lie on. Begin with it on the couch near you but not right next to you. Before you even sit down place her on her bed and pet her a bit. Maybe give her a couple treats or a rawhide. If she gets in your lap when you sit down, move her to her bed and repeat the above. As long as you are consistent she should eventually get the idea. If you prefer that her bed be on the floor, move it after a couple of days of her successfully lying in the bed and not getting on your lap.
If she really is cold, there are heated beds and pads that you can get for her.
She's not too old to learn or change her ways, but the longer she has done this the longer it will take.

Awwwwww.............that's so cute! Well, anyway, she just wants to be with you. Does she have a dog bed? That could help. She might just want to lie down on something comfortable. Unless your dog is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Those kind of dogs LOVE sitting on laps.

It's just a dog thing, they love you and they want to be near you. It's much more difficult to get a 160 lb Great Dane off you, who is firmly convinced that he is a lap dog!

She loves you - and she wants to be near you. Plus little dogs get cold easy - so they get your body heat to keep them warm. But mostly, its because she wants to be with you.
She's 13 - do you really think she's going to change now?? I doubt it - plus she thinks you love her too - to have let her sit on your lap all the time before -

At 13, she needs a little extra love and attention. She won't be with you much longer. You should cherish all the time she has left.

Little canine have been bred to be lap canine. notwithstanding in case you could desire to coach her which you have your area. close the door once you could desire to circulate. it is almost like human beings attempting to communicate to me whilst i'm on the lavatory. i won't be in a position to hold a convention whilst i'm on the pot! you could desire to have given in to her and he or she thinks you will lower back. some the variety you have knowledgeable her to beg for interest whilst your on the pot. I had a cat that did that to me. i could not have confidence it as he slink ed up in my face. Being a woman properly you could think of the jokes I heard approximately that. have confidence me I had to close the door.

13 yrs old! wow- she is getting old, she is just cold, most tiny/little dogs are always cold.
I have a little crate (I took the door off ) so my dog can come or go-- they like it with a pillow or blanket inside, it makes them feel secure.
try it.. it will work!
but use something that belongs to you with your scent on it.
good luck

my folks little 5lb poodle needs the warmth of a lap despite the fact that she wears sweaters and has a heating pad in her dog bed. our dogs love us and want to be near us....enjoy....someday you will miss that.

It is also for security reasons. She feels protected being on your lap because you will not let anything happen to her.
Yes, I do agree that she loves you too but it is for security as well.
