Have you been to see it? It's depressingly small and you all have to crowd into this room like cattle, then the next lot get herded in. It's crazy. If I'd had the time to actually look at it in real life (surely thats the point of a painting - it conveys something you don't get in a photo of a painting) then maybe I could give you a better answer.
However, I'd say because it's one of da Vinci's more confusing paintings, and because no-one knows who she is, or what she looks so smug about. So is she a real person, or a bizarre kind of self-portrait. It's probably not his best, but it raises so many questions that it's become one of the most important.

France only appreciates sturdy paintings. There are dozens and dozens of articles and essays about the Mona Lisa. (only google it) for my section I choose now to not dissect paintings that a lot. The extra one tries to quantify and objectify it, the a lot less one is in touch in the creative journey. (ie - 'paintings' isn't the article yet really the journey of interacting with the article on your own words)

Neither do I.
It is only famous because it got pinched and then because some bloke wrote a shite book involving it.
It is not even Leonardo's best work.............The Madonna of the Rocks is far better and, for that matter, far more mysterious than whether La Gioconda had wind to give her that smile.

It isn't important. Fame doesn't make it important. Had it been painted by someone other than Da Vinci, it wouldn't be nearly as famous. Personally, I don't even think it's good looking.

It's not - no artwork is worth what people pay for it. It's a sham - if it were truly about the art - they would be on display for all to see at no charge. It is just a gimic to seperate a fool and their money.

Because the painting is so 'different' from all of Da Vinci's other paintings, and because it is an 'enigma' ... Who is she? Why does she seem to have that 'secret smile'? It is also important because Da Vinci was one of the 'GREAT artists' and it's one of his works.

it got many expressions in her face. they dont know if the painting is a he or a she and the mona lisa sees you from every angle that yu see her. apart from that they think there is something about religion too.

Mostly becuase of who painted it. Partly because until recently she was a mystery. Someone has established who she is and where she is buried over about 30 years worth of research.
