my friend was trying to explain to me that her and her boyfriend broke up but they decided to try and work things out. she said when they were talking about how they are goin to work things out he told her they need to have an OPEN relationship but no cheating?.. does this really make sense?

No. It doesn't. It just shows that they're not ready for a real relationship. They are insecure and not sure about each other. They want to keep their options open. Maybe someone else wil come along. So they go out and find other people... when all that time, they already had someone. Maybe they're just in it for the sex... maybe they just want to say they HAVE somebody.

maybe he means honest and upfront about things? I would say that needs to be clarified. Because an "open" relationship means being able to see other people, that means "cheating".

i think what he means by saying an "open relationship" being open with each other, communicate...be truthful no matter what it is...it just means to communicate openly...
