it does always start at home. these kids were either overprotected or raised in a state of "benign" neglect...that's how the Vikings raised their children, and we know how peaceful they were.
in school, your children are taught the racist, sexist, flawed idea of "survival of the fittest". it's evolution, baby, that's why society is falling apart. we're all animals anyway, we might as well act like it...
parents need to become involved in their children's lives, and raise them to respect others, and understand that there are consequences for their actions. in this life and the next. we are too dependant on others to instruct our youth in the ways they should think, feel, and behave. this goes for the bullies that are on the recieving end as well, groupthink is a powerful force, and it always leads to bad things(cuban missle crisis, nazi germany, ect.) i'm not advocating school violence, but these kids are reacting in a terrible way, to terrible actions. in the end it has nothing to do with guns. the columbine kids used bombs. knives are easily accessible. guns are just a more "user-friendly" tool. they seem to make the loudest statement.

It's called desensitization. Video games, Television, and lack of parenting. A child can play a violent video game and if it's never explained out loud that its wrong then they could go out and reenact the scenes that they play in their video games or the movies they watch. But a child who's parent/s care they aren't as likely to do things like this because their parents have taught them how to sort out their differences with others. The boys at Columbine were playing these video games and and been for years. Another reason for these shootings is that teachers turn a blind eye to teasing and hazing and they say boys will be boys or girls will be girls. This too is unacceptable. If you are a teacher and you see your students teasing another student you need to stop it, cause the student enduring the teasing has been told time and time again by you the teacher and their parents to suck it up. you can only kick a dog so many times before it bites you back. Teachers and parents both are to blame and they need to start caring about each student instead of turning a blind eye to it.

These are not kids who are just upset or angry. These are the kids who have been teased, taunted, chased, spit on, called names, picked last for games, and put in their own locker. They have been abused by the so called good kids for so long they cant take it anymore. They lose it entirely!! Parents many times dont know what is happening to thier kid because when they were young they learned not to whine about it either because no one listened or other reasons. These kids often come from homes where they had issues at home, too.

Think about it - our president says it's okay to take our guns to other countries and kill the people we're mad at. why should high school kids think any differently??
Kids who are doing these types of things - have no respect for life or what people can become and bring to the world. I believe that most of that is because they don't have very good lives themselves.
Do they understand it can be settled peacefully? Well - no - they don't.
How are they getting their hands on these guns? Well - ANYBODY can have a baby - even stupid people who think it's okay to leave a gun in your house that is accessible to children. Even people who have no idea what their children are doing on the internet or in their bedrooms. The parents of these kids are not too bright.
Have the parents learned what can happen? Hopefully some of them. But ignorant people have babies everyday. There is not a test required to get pregnant and give birth.
What's going on? Our society accepts violence because it has always been in our lives. But you don't have to accept it. Peace starts with each individual.

They emulate what they see in the movies. The lines are blurred between good guys & bad guys now.
In the movies, the star gets "wronged" one way or other, then he sets out on a revenge quest, killing his enemies with guns - probably illegally obtained, too.
The entertainment industry claims their just providing what the public wants, yet most of the school shootings are obviously influenced by movie scenes, not the other way around.
Couple that with kids can't duke it out at schools anymore. I had a high school gym teacher who would let 2 guys fight in out privately in the mat room off the main gym. He wasn't a mean teacher, in fact, he was a good teacher also teaching history and social studies.
When I was younger, a kid could get in a school fight without getting expelled or suspended - you just got sent home for the day, and got in trouble by your parents.
Kids today can't settle their differences like their parents could & sometimes would.
Now, it's all bottled up until one of them snaps, steals his dad's gun, and cowardly shoots unarmed schoolmates.

A lot of children act completely different around family than they do around their peers. Not all of these kids are getting the guns from home, i'm sure they can purchase them from someone looking for quick cash. It is terrible that 11 yr olds are committing these crimes but how on earth do you stop it if you have no control over it? It doesn't always start at home. I know where you're coming from and i wish i had the answer!

Truthfully I think we wouldn't be seeing it if it wasn't for the irresponsibility of television in making such a huge thing about Columbine and milking it for all it was worth. One or two days about it would have been sufficient. Instead they kept on and on with it until they had taught kids that it was an option. How many kids that have taken guns to school would not have if they had not heard about others doing it on the news?
I am all for freedom of the press and letting people know what's going on, but there's no need to beat the drum on it forever.

The US is a violent county as a whole, what is happening in schools reflects whats happening in the streets. Any savvy young person does not need their parents to obtain firearms, there are millions available on the streets. Do you think your local drug dealer is going to care who he arranges a weapon for.
I think it's time to look at compulsory attendance for those whe really do not want to be in school. Alot of problems arise trying to force someone to be where they do not want to be. Just because they are there ,does not prevent them from not doing any class work, handing in blank tests etc. Many fail on purpose and cause constant disruption, suspensions or being expelled gives them what they want, not being there. To bad they have to go to extremes to do it.

Because that is how the leaders of the world resolve their disputes.
Or their parents.
Or they don't have parents to compell them otherwise.
It's psychological, obviously. It's also instinctual.
The pen is only mightier in society. In reality, weapons win.

I guess some people handle their anger in different ways. People's brains work in different ways. So many kids have issues with fitting in now-a-days that it's sad. This is probably their way of getting retaliation. Others may just be obsessed with stuff like that. Outcasters.
