I just did the research on this last year. For the money I spent ($20,000), the safest vehicle I could put my wife and daughter in was a 2000 Mercedes ML320. I looked at all the new, small SUVs like the CR-V and RAV-4, but by the time you added all the safety options, they were $30,000+. I could not find one used with ALL the safety features. The Mercedes comes standard with everything you need. And my wife loves the car.

A parked one. Because moving SUVs are almost always driven by idiots.
