If we go by the names of the days of the week it was:
The Sun
The Moon
Tyr
Wodan
Thor
Freya
and Saturn
Luckily the rest of the gods didn't get in on it or we would be waiting for the weekend forever

WOW, your wife married a prince. Yes, child birth is a natural part of life, but you try pushing out another human. Most people don't realize every time you have a child there is a chance you could die. The loss of blood, the high blood pressure just from being pregnant and the list goes on. When I was pregnant my son shifted and end up lying on a major blood vessel which caused me to be blind in one eye. the doctors said once I delieved him I would have sight back again since he would be off that blood vessel. Last I heard not many if any have died from a root canal, nor did the root canal last for hours or even a day or two but women can be in labor for 12 or more hours. And no, men couldn't handle being pregnant cause ya are big babies, you can't even handle a cold without crying. Your wife was right she has seven kids to raise, with you being the spoiled brat out the bunch.

We definitely got the seven day week and the Sabbath from the Genesis account of the creation. I guess that is the only reasonable explanation for it as the week has no scientific basis as does the month and year. Month determined by the moon and year by the movement of the earth around the sun.
You can study more about the Sabbath by clicking the link below.

Some historians say the 7 day week came from Persia or the ancient Romans. It existed before Christianity at the very least.
7 is an ancient mystical number, which could be one reason that a 7 day week was adopted.

I think that God originated the cycle, and He mandated resting on the Sabbath because He knew it was important. He told Adam and Eve to do this (I am ASSUMING), and they carried the tradition on to their children. Noah kept the tradition, and when Moses went up the mountain, God revealed to him that it should be a commandment, not just a suggestion.
