Sound like bipolar.
Get to a psych, get diagnosed and get drugs.
You CANNOT control it.
I couldn't tell you how many times I couldn't sleep because my mind just wouldn't stop.
I would dwell on everything and I couldn't stop it.
Then the plummets into depression were really special.
Get the doctor.
Go, go, go, go.

WHOAAAAA. You are exhibiting classic signs of an anxiety disorder. Whether or not it is due to a medical cause, a personal cause, or an unkown cause, it is VERY treatable. Go see a medical professional that you trust. There is medication and cognitive-behavioral therapy that will bring your body and mind back into line, promise. You are not nuts, your fight or flight system is just on the blink. You could have ten psych assessments and get ten diagnosis. Every one of us has some kind of glitch or quirk. Some of them really can be a benefit. Your high energy could really work for you on a number of fronts.
Make sure you are clean and sober.
Make sure you sleep 6-8 hours at basically the same time every day.
Make sure you exercise every day, whether for fun or for relaxation, but do it.
Eat every 2-3 hours
Eat high-protein, low sugar, healthy foods.
Take a multiple vitamin with minerals
Get enough calcium and sunshine.
Get a freaking hobby. Put all that energy to good use. Use it to ace school so you can have a great life. Use it to paint your room, use it to volunteer at your local hospital cheering up the kids with cancer or who are stuck there in the hospital with no one to care about them. Use it to visit old people in nursing homes who have no one.
Whatever you do, don't sit around and worry about whether you are mental or not. We all feel sad, mad, anxious, angry, etc. We are just human. Sorry. YOU need to decide what it is you want and take the steps to get it. If attention is what you need, then go ask for it. Just say, "I am lonely and I need a hug." Ask for what you need and get the heck out of the house. Go be with other people. LISTEN to them and don't talk about you.
You know the rules:
1. Get up, get dressed, get out EVERYDAY whether you feel like it or not.
2. Feelings do not dictate what we do. Do what is right no matter how you feel.
3. If you need medication to get your head back on, then go do that. Get support--find a cognitive behaviorist, not a psychotherapist or psychiatrist. Fix the problem, don't just keep medicating it.
4. You may need a mood stabilizer or an anxiety med. while you work on being the you you'd like to be. You can do this. If the med makes you worse, don't just stop taking it. Contact the prescriber and get a different one. All of us are different and no one drug works for everyone.
Best of luck to you. BREATHE. Check out Nameste Yoga by the way. It is amazing on how you can regulate your mind and body. You have more control than you think.

I would go ahead and make an appointment with the doctor if I were you. Get a second opinion. If you are mentally ill, that doesn't make you a bad person. You could be bi-polar, or you could have manic depression or other serious illnesses. People with these issues get help and lead ordinary lives. Keeping an open mind about what your doctor says and going through treatment will get you back on the right path. Once all of these things aren't clouding your brain you can enjoy life. You should get help before it gets worse or out of hand. There are a lot more people out there with these sorts of problems than you think, and you would never know it.
I said a prayer for you. Good luck.

Modern life is very unhealthy. I would try to keep a very regular life. Go to bed and rise at the same time every day. Make sure you get 45 minutes of exercise like walking briskly every day. Force yourself to go out during day time and get as much sun light as possible. Find music that you associate with good feelings and play it every day. Try this for a month and come back and report on how you are doing. I bet you would get some substantial relief from your symptoms.

[DON'T GET BORED...READ ME]
Who controls what here? ...it gets to a time when we forget about ourselves and thoughts control us instead of us controlling them...
...The question here is: what have you done to get it to be the way it is?
...When we were very little...as a mechanism to defend ourselves with against the “rough world”...we picked up traits and stuff—just in the way you have stated. Do you remember how you use to get your mom’s attention? Was it in the way you are doing it now, being in the state you are in? —just meditate on this a little—.
…Nevertheless, at 29, that defense, that strategy for life has gone on automatic and it seems that it cannot be stopped...it doesn’t work as good as it did when you were 7 or so…and now, it ends in all of the classifications that we have created: like personality disorders—neuroses—and what not…
…Don't waist your time on finding a way to classify what’s going on with you, because you will find a lot of labels that come with bad reputation...it's like the feelings you have...who said that those things are necessarily ''bad''? ...they just ''are'', and what are you going to do about it? And another thing, don’t try to find the easy way out—and I don’t mean suicide because this means that something inside of you wants to die: like the old you, so the real you can be again. I mean, don’t use meds…if you attend all of your issues your body will heal by itself…
…There come a time –about every seven years— that we go into “crisis”…its actually something inside of you giving you the bill…the bill for neglecting your essence…all the rest is egocentrism…TAKE CARE...

You know what? You're very articulate. You are clearly able to codify what you are thinking and feeling. Good for you!!
You've had lots of good advice from others.
I only want to add: find a benevolent Higher Power to help you. Pray and ask for Guidance, Centreing, Direction, and Comfort.
Your Higher Power will help you if you ask.

I agree it does sound like bi-polar disorder to me, but I'm not a Dr. You should print out this page and show it to a Dr. someone who specializes in mental health. Please don't wait, the sooner you go the sooner you can get a handle on your life.

I have personality disorder. It's hard to ask for help. I felt like asking for help meant that I was admitting that I was crazy. (There are worse things to be than crazy.) Please get help. It's hard, but you can do it. You know you need help, and I promise it will make you feel better. I have felt just like this before! You can do it. I think you're worth it.

Get exercise, eat healthy, quit using drugs and alcohol. Your brain is just another organ, and if you put crap in your body, and crap ideas in your head, you will be sick.
