For a bird that sings really pretty, you should look into a male canary or male Gouldian finches.
The canary will sing more than the Gouldian since the pretty song for the Gouldians is part of the mating ritual.
Search the internet for breeders in your area. Call them and visit their aviary to see the birds and learn what it takes to care for them.

I don't think you should get a bird solely because it sings pretty. The work they are may or may not be worth the occasional song, but it definitely wouldn't be fair if you took in a bird that, as an individual, did not prefer singing and you decided to dump it or something because you're unhappy with it and it's unhappy with you.
Also, on top of the initial $50 to thousands some birds cost, the housing is a few hundred to a few thousand, quality food (birds that are unhappy or unhealthy will most definitely not want to sing) come to maybe $50-$100 for 6 months, medical costs can range from $60 to thousands, medical emergencies the same.

Cockatiels are wonderful birds. If they are hand fed they are VERY lovable. They have a cute little chirp, and can be taught to whistle very easily. They don't usually learn to talk though. They can run anywhere from $50 to $200 depending on what kind of cockatiel you want. I have a pearl cockatiel, and she is beautiful. You can get them at just about any pet store and also through private breeders. Just be sure that that whatever bird you decide on has been hand fed. Hand fed birds are almost always more friendly and playful. If you have any question, feel free to email me.
Good luck!

Think twice or thrice before you do it! We had a conure...I loved him but he was very noisy and he attacked people who came into my house. He was "protecting his flock". I broke my heart to have to send him away. If I was a loner, he'd have been great. You really have to be careful with birds. THey are like little people in many ways. They need attention and more attention and want to be with you all the time. If you can handle that, then do some research before you take the leap! For the sake of your family and the sake of the bird!

Conures are fun but require a lot of work and are noisy! We have a spoiled 2 year old conure and she is a handful. Read up on birds and be careful to pick one that fits your families lifestyle.

most bird stores sell canaries that are marked as singers. lots of birds let out loud squacks. try a quaker parakeet. they are bigger than parakeets and are not singers but they have really good personalities and don' make shrill squaking sounds. doves can be nice too. the coo and are very peacful and are a lot cleaner than most birds.

Canaries. The cost between $40-75.00 and you can usually get them at any pet store. Make sure you get a male, they're the real singers.
