my personal opinion is....... if it doesn't have anything to do with ME, i dont care what they want to do.
its no point in wasting you own time and energy concerned over someone elses body, when there are other things in your life that you could be concentrating on.
like you, i got my first tatto when i was 16, and i dont regret it at all. i actually like it more NOW then i did then.
but i got it because "i" wanted it, NOT because of some trend.
tattoos should be for the owner, not the observer.
someone mentioned in a comment before me, that their grandchildren will think something about them when they get older.
when my grandparents were alive, i would NEVER think anything bad about them for living their life the way they wanted to when i wasnt even born yet.
people are so uptight about tattoos when it doesn't even concern them.
where are peoples priorities these days?
there are more things to be worried about other than the skin of a person that you dont even know!
people should stop worrying about teens getting tattoos, and start worrying about them abusing the household products in their homes as drugs.
they recently had to start selling Robitussin (a cough medicine) from behind the counter, because so many teenagers where buying it and drinking the whole bottle to get drunk.
teens are getting drunk by drinking mouthwash.
teens are getting high off of air freshener, by spraying it up their nose!
so to sum all of this up, i have other things to concern myself about.
life is too short to be concerned about something that is NOT going to change, instead of worrying about the things that you CAN change!!

They are more apart of our society and culture than ever before, but anything in moderation.
The one thing I see with teens getting tattoos especially is many don't don't think long term. What I mean is, you are not gonna be a teen forever. Think about you future, what you plan to with your live. If your gonna become a Senator, I wouldn't recommend getting one on your neck. As much as I love tattoos and body art, there has to be a common sense factor which is a matter of opinion.
I like the fact that I can cover mine up or diplay them when I want. Even though I am not a person that cares what people think of me, I know when to throw that notion out the door. The reality is other do judge and stereotype you based on appearance first. Imagine being turned down for a job because of your tattoo! It happens all the time! I can mean the difference between making 6 or 7 figures a year or living paycheck to paycheck for the rest of your life.
Bottom line, be sensible and think long term about tattoos and everything else for that matter.

I think young people should be more selective in their choices. I personally don't see anything wrong with it, as long as the person is aware that it's going to be with them for the long haul, especially tattoos.
I have a friend who works in daycare and has 3 tattoos strung along her collarbone. Even in summer she has to wear a high neck on all her shirts for work because some of the parents don't approve. Right or wrong, she works in an affluent area with alot of business people's children and they don't want their children to see it. I think it was a poor choice of location, even though I love her tattoos. They are creative and none are very big, but she has to hide them at work to avoid problems. If you choose to get a tattoo or piercing, think ahead. What are you planning to do for the rest of your life and when it is required, can you remove or cover it?
I'm getting my first tattoo soon. It is a small tasteful tattoo that can be hidden if I have to wear a bridesmaid's dress or attend a cocktail party for work etc... I'm a little beyond the teens, mid thirties, actually, but there are things to consider regardless of your age and I think young people need to look at this topic from a more logical standpoint sometimes.

I think that for piercings, some are acceptable for teens (younger than 18) to get. Navel is generally fine and same goes for most ear piercings, but no genital or nipple piercings should be done on anyone under 18. As far as facial piercings go, that's something that younger teens suffer a huge backlash for, I think those should be chosen wisely.
As far as tattoos go, I think no one under legal tattoo age should get tattoos. Even at 18, 19, and 20, some people get tattoos to find their tastes have changed when they hit 25+ and they hate their tattoos. I think you were to young for a tattoo, but I'm not here to point fingers or judge you. All I know is that at 16 and 17, had I gotten a tattoo, I'd hate myself today for wanting such stupid crap. But if its not my body, I really don't care too much in the long run.

I have mixed feelings. I remember how much I hated my parents for not letting me get piercings and for telling me how I'd regret getting tattoos, but I had been planning my piercings/tattoos since I was eight and I really have a strong connection to body modification. I knew I would never regret any of them.
However, I think today there are more and more kids getting them to be "cool" or to look "tough" and they're giving tattoos and piercings a bad rep.

I was young when i got my tattoos and piercings but I don't know what you were thinking getting them so young!!! You don't have any idea what you are doing..and ask anyone who have GOOD tats not FLASH (for those of you who don't know what flash..its the **** on the wall) so if you go in to a parlor at the ripe age of 17 them your going to pick out some shitty tattoo and put it on you body (and its forever) and you do it because you think its cool...I think that is the stupidest thing someone could ever do!!!!And saying that tattoos are a fashion trend is the most naive and iggnorant thing you could say and it offends me

In the state which I live it's against the law to give tattoos to people under the age of 18 even with the parents permission. I'm sure there are places that don't follow the law, but those are the places I wouldn't recommend getting a tattoo anyway. What other laws might they be breaking like cleanliness laws.

Ideally I believe that everyone should have the ability and opportunity to express themselves. Teenagers are typically more spontaneous than the rest of the [age] population but if a teen were to put SERIOUS consideration into the tattoo or piercing I don't have any reservations.

I don't mind tattoo's or peircings. My bestfriends both have their belly's peirced. I find it quite neat I love going shopping and than stopping to look at belly rings. At a point in time I had my heart set on it but not as much any more. I just don't do needles. The funny thing is I have my heart set on getting a tattoo of an charm anklet my sister gave to me before she died. But yea there is nothing wrong with them. But i think the chain from your nose to your ear is quite gross.
