Why is October the tenth month?

Bit of a silly question, but it's always bugged me!

Because in the Roman Calendar, October was the eighth month.
November was the ninth, and December the tenth.

Choosing a wife

A man wanted to get married. He was having trouble choosing among three likely candidates. He gives each woman a present of $5,000 and watches to see what they do with the money.

The first does a total makeover. She goes to a fancy beauty salon, gets her hair done, new makeup; buys several new outfits and dresses up very nicely for the man. She tells him that she has done this to be more attractive for him because she loves him so much.

The man was impressed.

The second goes shopping to buy the man gifts. She gets him a new set of golf clubs, some new gizmos for his computer, and some expensive clothes. As she presents these gifts, she tells him that she has spent all the money on him because she loves him so much.

Again, the man is impressed.

The third invests the money in the stock market. She earns several times the $5,000. She gives him back his $5,000 and reinvests the remainder in a joint account. She tells him that she wants to save for their future because she loves him so much.

Obviously, the man was impressed.

The man thought for a long time about what each woman had done with the money he'd given her.

Then, he married the one with the biggest boobs.

Men are like that, you know.

There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's resea rch. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

If you don't send this to five OLD friends right away there will be five fewer people laughing in the world

The Calendar in the early days may not have been devised by us, so maybe at 1 point in time it was the 8th month or moon. New Year's around the world fall on different times of the year.

There were 10 in the Gregorian Calendar, but then the Roman Emperors Julius Caear, and Augustus wanted months names after them (July and August), and that is why there are 12 months in the Roman Calendar.

Ah ha, I know this one. The romans named the months, but we swapped some around and added a few of our own from our own pagan history, and so october bobbed along into tenth position. December was the tenth month, 'dec' means tenth.

In Latin, octo means "eight". October was also the eighth month in the Roman calendar until a monthless winter period was divided between January and February.

It used to be the eighth month but Julius Cesar needed a month named in his honor (July) and Augusts Cesar needed a month to remember his name by (August). Now for the octopus having legs? Sorry sweetheart but those are tentacles not legs.

Originally there were only 10 months. September was seventh. November 9th. December 10th. They added months to honor two Caesars: Julius and Augustus. The other months are named after gods and other stuff I didn't feel like looking up.
