I've searched online and have yet to find a straight answer. I've heard that it is cured or blenched from some sources, and that it is just completely raw from others.

Sushi is cold boiled rice moistened with rice vinegar, usually shaped into bite-size pieces may or may not be topped with raw seafood. Sushi can be topped with eggs, vegetables or seafood -- all which can be cooked and still be considered sushi.

When people hear the word sushi, they often equate it to RAW FISH. Raw fish can be included in sushi, but that's not the only ingredient that can be used. The word sushi refers to the rice, not the other ingredients.

Sashimi is completely raw seafood -- that may be the term you're looking for.

Hope this helps!

Depends on what you are eating. Really the only thing you are referring to is the meat right. I mean, we all know the rice is cooked and who cares if the veggies are or not. Here is an easy guideline. Crab and shrimp sushi is always cooked. I have yet to see raw shrimp anywhere. California rolls are cooked and alot of the samon rolls are smoked. The thing you want to stay away from is Sashimi, thats the raw slabs of meat with no rice or veggies around it. Some of this is also smoked but if you want to be sure I wouldnt eat any sashimi.

There are many kinds of sushi, raw and cooked. If you go to a sushi bar, look at the ingredients the sushi chef are using. Lots of fresh seafood's and veggies. I believe they started using some cooked smoked fish for customers that balked at the thought of eating raw fish.

It really depends on the type of sushi. Some is raw, some is smoked, some can be cooked using other methods.

Sushi can be raw, fried, cooked, steamed, pickled, boiled, etc.
It depends on what you order.

Anything in sushi that involves shrimp or crab meat is cooked. Everything else is pretty much raw. If your wondering what to try (i don't eat anythign raw), have a spider roll, a cucmber roll, a boston roll, and a spicy crab salad.

You may be referring to sashimi - the actual fish slices. They are raw to my knowledge. Sushi is anything prepared with rice vinegar, rolled with seaweed. Sushi is not necessarily fish.
