I just got a call from a small claims officer and I've been told that I'm going to small claims. They are willing to settle for 1100. This was my ex's fault but I have to pay for it. How can I come up with $1100 I work, but I pretty much live pay check to pay check.

Depending on how much they are suing for and how concrete the evidence you have that the misdeed was your ex's fault (and if you know your not liable) it may be worth it to go to court.

There is a difference between fault and liability. It can be your ex's fault but you may still be liable. If you're pretty sure you're not liable (this will require some research), you can try to take it to court. If you're ex is liable then they should be bringing the claim against him

If you think that the claim against you will succeed and will be for more than $1100 dollars, talk to the folks who have made the claim against you. Explain your situation and tell them you can only afford to pay a little bit at a time. If they won't accept that then you may have to go to court (the court will work out a payment schedule).

Hope this helps.

sell something, or borrow it from your dad, ask your boss for an advance and have him take out $20 a week from your check
