I know it's tough but hang in there it does get better! Right now what you are feeling is the shifting of your teeth making a space for the Orthodontists to put your bands on. He has to make a space or the band won't slip around your tooth without being forced on, which you don't want them to do. Ask your mom or dad if you can have some Advil or Motrin for the pain, it helps a lot. Also try not to eat anything that you have to chew. Stick it cold and soft for the next couple of days. And do that again when you get your braces on next week. Lot's of ice cream, (no nuts or crunchy) smoothies, the cold helps ease the pain, soups, scrambled eggs, cheese stuffed baked potato, spaghetti. Just avoid chewing for now, that only aggravates the teeth that are already aggravated from being shifted already. It gets easier in a few days, and before you know it, you'll be a pro at it and giving other people advise! Keep thinking, it'll be over soon, and it'll be worth it for that beautiful smile! Good luck! Let me know how it's going!

Don't forget the ice cream and Motrin or Advil, you should be feeling better today.

Spacers are the worst part of starting treatment. They do hurt worse than braces, and our readers always say so! Just hang on, because the spacers will be taken out in about a week.

Yeah i only had them on last month . But i had them on for a total of 3 or 4 months . I know but when the pain stops , your lip mite slip under the spacers . And food gets stuck it them . And when you get them off your dentist or orthodontist has to cut ever bit of wire off special for the place . (the wire has to be cut of in little bits for your bracket

Try brushing your teeth with toothpaste for sensitive teeth. It should help at least some. Even if you don't, the pain hurts less as your teeth move to where they need to be.

wow mine didnt hurt THAT bad. just got mine last monday. joy. anyways, i found that drinking cold water helps (i think maybe the cold shrinks the rubber bands. YAY!!) my ortho also said gargling with water and baking soda helps 4 some very odd reasons.... and just suck on ice and take advil/tylonel/motrin/generic/w/e else you take. BRACE yourself (bad pun intended) for when you get the actual braces.

mine lasted till my teeth spaced apart enough. then when ever you eat some thing they will come out with the food. but if you find them put them back in or your teeth will move back and you will have to go through it all over again.

it will last for a few days, and when you get braces they will adjust them every month and your mouth will be sore every time for a few days......it sucks but its well worth it!
