I was thinking it would be something fun and different to do for the last 2 hours of the reception. Tell me what you really think.

haha this is what we are doing at our wedding in march. we figured that everyone hates the music at a wedding. this way, the guests are responsible for it, not us. plus, we're alternating between that and regular music. for an hour we're having just music and an open bar. then, it's time to get it started. of course, the bar is going to be open the whole time. we're having it at a nice place, but i could give a flip. people are there to celebrate our love and happiness. so, we figure they'll celebrate it our way and have fun! ;)

Looks like I'm going against the grain, but I plan to do so at my wedding in May. After dancing our first dance and traditional dances, and all the cake cutting, etc, we're going to have the DJ break out the karaoke for whoever's left and wild at the very end of the reception.

We're having a small wedding and know most of the older family will probably be leaving after the first 1-2 hours anyway. As long as it's tastefully done, I see no problem with it. Just make sure to hire a mature person to handle the karaoke, who can handle those who've been drinking, and who won't make your guests wait long to turn out a song.

We've had karaoke parties before and had a ball, so we know it will be a hit at our wedding. If it's something you think that won't go over well at your wedding, or if you have many untalented or shy family, you may want to reconsider.

Best of luck and congrats!!!

I think its not that hot of an idea for the reception. If you plan to have an after party then it would be fun.

My outlook is this: You are spending all this money on a beautiful day, from soup to nuts you want everything to be nice. Adding karaoke, something that people dont really have fun at unless they are ripped, you are junking up the day.

I can't emphasize enough how much I'd be opposed to this without being incredibly rude. If I were a guest, I would probably leave. Karaoke has it's place on taco tuesday and sushiland on saturday. A wedding is not a child's birthday party.

Unless, of course, you are friends with Sting, Madonna, Paul McCartney, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, George Michael, Elton John, and Justin Timberlake - then, I'm all for it. ; )

Don't do it. I think it's fun for a rehearsal dinner, but not a wedding reception. I went to one once---its only fun for the people who know the person who's singing.

Will there be drinking at your wedding? If so, then karoke is probably NOT a good idea. People get drunk and do enough nutty things at weddings without something like this.

Why not pass the video camera around and have people give you good wishes or whatever interesting life lessons they'd like you to know.

You'll probably get some good advice or some hsyterical advice especially if the guests are soused.

I think its cute...but MUCH later. After some of the older guests have gone home and after you and your new spouse have spent a little time with your guests.

This is your wedding reception, people come to celebrate your happiness....but after that's done, let them break out into "I Will Survive", I bet it will be a lot of fun!

That's a great idea! It's a good way to break the ice and get both families closer together (laughter is the best medicine and a good way to get people to relate). Especially if there's drinking involved. Get a few people feelin' good and then get them up there to sing! It will make great, happy, and funny memories to share with your hubby and your family for years to come. Congrats and good luck in your decision!

Yea, I think it would be fun, but like you said, definetly at the end b/c that way most of your "stiffer" guests will be gone, and you have your funner people anyway, if your having a bar, then folks would be good and liquored up by then and the real fun starts when you give drunk people microphones! haha! I do think it would be great at the end......go for it!

Oh God! More corniness added to the already overrated and cheesy reception! Kudos for your ingenuity and brilliance!
