Well, the vast majority of Manhattan is natural, created during the last couple of ice ages by glaciers. The Battery and some parts of the southern tip were built by landfill, most of that from the construction of the WTC and other buildings during the 60s-70's. Other places may have been land-filled in as well, but the southern end is the largest area that I know of. I'm sure you can look it up somewhere.

It is both! Majority of Manhattan is natural - the rock being called shist - not granite. Most of the lower area such as Battery Park is made from landfill from various buliding projects - not just the WTC. You will see this wonderfully illustrated at the museum at Ellis Island.

Manhattan Island is a real island and has been so for thousands of years.
I believe the land below Wall St you are referring to is Battery Park City. Wall street is to the east of that area and actually that land reclamation only occured around the WTC during its construction. It is not quite all the land south of Wall St so you are not correct in asserting he was wrong.

Most is natural. South of Wall St is man made.
Edit - Steve M is incorrect. Look it up yourself.
