Here's a clip from part of answer to someone else's question...

Anyhow, we use scripture to back up our claims simply because if you ask a christian based question, wouldn't you use a christian based source?

That's like asking a biologist to answer a biology question without using works derived from scientific biology journals and books.

Doesn't make sense does it?

Not talking about cutting and pasting scripture quotes.. I'm talkin about it as a source of authority.

absolutely. If you truly believe that the Bible is the Word of God then you would use the Bible as your source- I do.
for that person who said a biologist would not use books or journals on biology because if they were intelligent and knew there stuff they would not have to use references. that is just one more way to try and justify their non-belief and faith in God. If doctors did not use medical journals there would be no books in their offices. The Bible is used to point people to Jesus Christ- if you do not read it you will not know , and once you are a believer, it points to the life that we are to live. This does not mean we do not think for ourselves, it does mean if we trust in God, we will go to scripture to continue to grow in our faith. If a doc or scientist or anyone else never opened a book to continue to learn, I would not go to them at all. Sorry that was a bad analogy to me.

The Bible is the only thing to quote while answering Christian questions. Its only about what GOD says and thinks. Yes, we should quote scripture tho, as we should SHOW what God does say, to those that wont read scripture.
Its the only thing that makes sense. What other book or info would we quote from to show what God says???
PPL will quote from the Koran or other religious books. Its not about religion. Christianity means you are a follower of Jesus Christ. Only the Bible teaches the true God of Jesus Christ, and no other source will do. Also, if one is truly Christian, they also love Jesus enough to obey Him. No other way.
Not only is the Bible a viable source, its the ONLY source that will ever do. amen

That's where many religions go wrong these days. Their beliefs are not supported with scriptures so they are teachings of men rather than teachings of God. Jesus warned against them
Matthew 15:6b
If you're going to have beliefs then they really should be supported with scripture. To blindly believe in something without evidence is foolishness. Especially if you endeavour to live your life by that same belief. It can't motivate your life properly because it hasn't been proved to you.
Check all your beliefs with scripture & give yourself foundation for your beliefs & then you can practice your religion "by the book."

If you find that scripture contradicts what you were raised to believe - then be humble enough to change that belief.

If a person is well learned and believing in their faith-they should be able to just answer a question---not turn to the Bible to answer it.

A biologist would probably answer a biology question without pulling books out about it. He'd know it without using references.

The bible should be a source, but one of many. People should look to more then one source for information.

I think it is good to use a quote from a reliable sourse if you have it but some people do seem to go over the top with copy and past. it only serves to anoy others.
