My 9 year old found a drawing book on the sale rack at Michaels, but they refused to honor it. They told him to show him WHERE he found it, so he walked over to show the manager, but she said that if it werent the last one of that particular book, she'd have honored it, but since it was the last one, he needed to pay full price. What do YOU think???

The sticker WAS on the book, marked down on a RED sticker, but it didnt ring up that way...and WINGS, why the hostility? Maybe its time for you to get OUT of retail....not time for me to go into it.

They sould have honored it... they were wrong to charge full price. I used to be in retail and would honor it even if I KNEW it was wrong.. I thought "the customer is ALWAYS right" that is what I went by. I would have told the manager that I am no longer going to shop there and I will tell 10 friends the reason why.
He's a kids for goodness sake, its not like he was trying to rip them off!!!

No, it shouldn't be honored. It was the last book, and someone else (probably a customer) in the store decided that they didn't want to put it back in the proper spot.

That is not the store's fault. Unless there is a mark down sticker ON the merchandise, be prepared to pay full price for it.

**EDIT**

There WAS a markdown STICKER? And, they DIDN'T honor the price? Oh, hell no. We're talking about a kid's coloring book, not a Rolex. Regardless of WHAT the merchandise was, though, it doesn't matter. It had the sticker ON THE MERCHANDISE, therefore, the sale should have been honored. What was the store losing, anyways? $1.50?

I would call their regional office, provided that they have one, and COMPLAIN. If that is not an option, call them and tell them that you're going to report them to the BBB (Better Business Bureau). They did not treat you like a valued customer, and they falsely advertised an item to be on sale. If nothing else, you may be able to get some coupons for future use if you complain enough.

The added on comment makes a big difference!! Stores don't have to honor it if it's not marked because someone probably just set it down in the wrong place. But yes since they had put a sticker on it, that is the advertised Price and they should have honored it. Especially if the sticker didn't look like it had been pulled off of another book and placed on that one.

They should have given it to him, if it were labeled (with the price sticker things). If however, it was just stuck there by another customer and thats not where it was supposed to be, it gets a little more complicated, especially since that was the only copy in the store (which they would have had to verify somehow right?). To keep their customers happy, and assuming the price difference was less then thirty percent, they should have honored it.

Working in retail yes this is right. if it had been the last then yes they could have even if the sign said it was a different item. Read the price label to be sure it is the item. If you think then you would know that other customers get lazy and stash things they don't want on sales racks. So why should a store have to cater to you because a lazy customer didn't want that item and didn't want to walk back to the place they got it from? Floor associates can only do so much. By the sounds of it you have never worked in a retail position. Try it sometime and then you might have a little more respect for the cashier that is ringing up your stuff and for the other associates in the store. Cashiers aren't dumb, they know lots of math and constantly have numbers running through their head...

thats bullshit. just becaus its he last one doenst mean squat.

otherwise, as far as honoring the sale just becuase it was on the sale rack doenst really qualify it for a sale. people can put things back in the wrong place. If the register rung the price up as a sale price then they should honor the price but if it rung up as full price they dont hae to honor it. stores actually reserve the right to thier prices. and honoring things is acutally something they just do.

I personally think that if it was on the sale rack it should get the sale price. I wonder why just because it was the last one it's the higher price? That makes no sense to me. I don't know what the rules are for this but I think that was wrong.

How do stores expect consumers to keep coming back when they don't even honor their sale prices???

If all the items on the sales rack have stickers. Then no it shouldn't be honored. But if they are just "there" like the coloring book, then yes it should be honored. And what does being the last book have to do with it?? That doesn't make any sense to me.

convinced, the clearance section is interior the lower back of the save. there is a few tremendously good things there too for more effective or less $10-20. Its akin to the week earlier's new outfits. Its no longer undesirable =)

Sorry but I think that its not the stores fault if someone else misplaced the book on the wrong shelf. However, the manager shouldn't have said she would honor it, if it wasn't the last one.
