It's a little late for us to change our behaviour after we are already dead.

And there is no deterrent effect since no one witnesses the punishment so what is the point?

Same goes for postmortem rewards.

God does not punish unbelievers after death. God gave everyone the same opportunity to choose their eternal fate. It is up to you to decide if you want to be punished or not.

@Max: it particularly is humorous the way you assert "Hinduism has no answer" once you in all risk have not even study a single vedic text cloth or touched the Bhagvad Gita. it particularly is like me asserting there is not any answer the thank you to sparkling up differential equations in a math e book with out having skimmed by using it. As for the unique question, there is not any theory-approximately hell and punishment after dying. Hindus have confidence you're reborn as an inferior animal in case you have sinned as a human.

You are misunderstanding the whole punishment thing.
The punishment referred to as 'hell' is separation from God. We do not die it is only our physical body that dies, who we are, lives eternally. The Bible teaches us that beyond our physical world there are only two possible places to be, either we are in God's presence or we are not.
God cannot tolerate sin therefore he cannot tolerate us in his presence and because God is the source of love and hope if we are not with him after death then we will be in a place that is without love, hope or happiness for ever.
Remember the times when you felt so much pain and despair that you just wanted to die or drown your sorrows, when someone you loved has died, your partner leaves you, your boy friend has just dumped you, your child is seriously ill, something so terrible happens that you think you will never recover or be happy again. That is what hell is like but you WILL NEVER recover, the terrible feeling that you can't cope with will never stop, you will want to die to end it but you can't because that is what death is and there is no escape.
The only way to avoid this punishment is to choose to take the only way out that God himself has provided. God said that if we accept His son Jesus in our life here, then our sins will be stripped away from us so that we can be in his presence when we die. It has nothing to do with how good or bad we are, it has everything to do with 'what we do with Jesus'. If you ignore him you will spend eternity bitterly regretting it. Life here is very short compared to eternity. I urge you to seriously think about it today, tomorrow you might die and yes, then it is too late.

God says that the wages sin pays is death (Romans 6:23)

Therefore just the act of dying has paid the price for our sin. Yes, Jesus died as a ransom for all of obedient mankind, but there is a lot more to the teaching of what happens to us when we die (Ecclesiastes 9:5; 3:19,20; Ezekiel 18:4;

Read also John 5:28 & 29: " Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment."

Let me add that the judgement is not for the things we did with out accurate knowledge of God before we died...as I said, the wages sin pays is death, and for those resurrected, that wage has been paid and your slate is clean. Rather that judgement is for what you chose after being resurrected and taught accurate knowledge of God.

God is wise, fair, and just in all his ways. Learn from him.

Acts 24:15: "and I have hope toward God, which hope these [men] themselves also entertain, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous."

Now for those still living in the time of the end who have not chosen to get to know God...this is their future and also those who did chose to know God and to serve him...see the contrast, and note that for the ones who are cut off in that day there will be no hope of a resurrection, so it is vital to learn all you can now, so that you can be one of the ones to inherit the earth.

Psalms 37: 9-11,29: "For evildoers themselves will be cut off,
But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth.
10 And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more;
And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be.
11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth,
And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.
29The righteous themselves will possess the earth,
And they will reside forever upon it."

Our hope is for everlasting life, but only in heaven for a select few who are to rule as kings and priests, for the rest of us that hope is to life on a reastored paradise earth...forever.

John 4: 23: "Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for, indeed, the Father is looking for suchlike ones to worship him."

John 17:3: " This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ."

I don't know what makes you think that a perfect God who can only make perfect souls would need to punish them.

Becuase he is GAAAAWWWDDD! The Grand Poohbah. If you offend Him, by not kissing His backside, then the only natural consequence is eternal punishment. It makes perfect sense!

(ok, smash your head against a brick wall for 15 minutes)

Make sense yet?

If you have made up your mind to not believe the word of God, than why keep questioning it?

God made souls but is not happy how most of them turned out.

If you fall into that category, you will burn and rot in Hell, you will have worms, you will itch and can't scratch, you will suffer from painful farts, and your misery will last forever.
