know about their ears? I have a two and a half month old and her ears were standing upat first. Then about two weeks ago one dropped, then last week the other one dropped. Is this normal? Will they stand back up? It doesn't matter to me, but I'm wondering if this is normal. Thanks

I want to share with you a technique that I have found works great and helps strengthen their ears so they stand up properly.
When your Chihuahua is lounging or sleeping- near you or on you in my cases LOL- put the dog in a position so that it is facing you if possible on its back. You take your thumb and place it along the inside of the ear flap with the tip of your thumb toward the tip of the ear. Next place your index finger and middle finger on the back of the ear flap and begin massaging in a circular motion moving toward the tip of the ear. Concentrate on the folded part a little longer than the rest of the ear. Do not squeeze or pinch the ear just apply light pressure and massage gently. It is best to do this as often as possible and works best while watching TV. I've not seen a Chihuahua that was displeased about this massaging, it relaxes them.
Let me assure you that this technique has worked for me many times. I did it for all of my Chihuahuas from the time they were born or as soon as I got them. Their ears were standing perfect by 6 weeks of age and did not fold even during teething because of this technique. I have showed friends and other Chihuahua owners how to do it and they have had success as well.
What this technique does is strengthen the cartilage in the ears by encouraging blood circulation.
If you would like you can me send messages and I will be happy to offer any other advice I can. I have an extensive library of books and websites that give helpful advice about Chihuahuas. I love Chihuahuas and I try to pass along advice whenever I can and would never recommend something that I haven't approved of first with my own.

She just needs some time to grow into them!
This IS a serious answer. Their little ears grow somewhat faster than the rest of them. Once she gets to be about 5 months old they should stand back up. I have four chihuahuas and not a droopy ear in the bunch!

yes, I have 3 chihuahuas and 2 of them had ears that stuck straight up from birth but the 3rd my female she is 1 years old and her ears flop if she is in a bad mood. Most of the time they are up. When I enquired about this with my vet he said that some ears are straight at birth some grow into them and some well they flop from time to time. Nothing is wrong with any of them.

My chi's ears tipped over at about 4 or 5 months of age and stayed that way. I'm not sure and don't care, but supposedly the AKC standard requires them to remain upright for show quality purposes. He's still a great looking, well behaved little dog. I'm sure yours is too.

Have you examined inside the ears to see if red or inflamed? Any odor or "****". Any brown waxy discharge? Anything that isn't a clean normal color and look inside the ear.
Does she mess or scratch at her ears or shake her head a lot?

If any of above is a Yes then get her to vet. Also, I assume she has a vet you could call and ask this question of. If not, then please find her a vet for all the normal care she does need.

Chihuahuas ears will go up and down if they are particularly large in size (the ears that is) or if they are a long coat with a lot of fringe. In addition, ears also go up and down during the teething process.

Generally, as long as they've been completely up at one point, they will go back up again.

Yes, they will stand up eventually. My first Chihuahuas ears went back and forth like that for a while, but eventually they stood right up. You just need to give it some time.

I have two chi's and don't worry your chi's ears will stand, sometimes it takes longer, just depends. Also if your chi is teething the ears will flip flop. If they don't stand you can tape them, but yes it is normal!!!!

a friend of mine has one and the same thing happened to him. the vet told him it wasn't a big deal that it happens sometimes and that as they grow sometimes they pop back up. i was just reading on a website that their ears do go up and down and sometimes its due to the stress of teething or poor diet but its usually just getting the muscles strenghtened with age.
