If security isn't an issue for you or the people in your home - go for it.

I had an experience that will ensure I always have a land line phone.

Without it I would have one less loved one in my life.

Short and sweet of it: Neighbor 1 was calling 911 from their phone (Cells only) at the same time Neighbor 2 was from their land line (cordless)...Neighbor 2 got through - Neighbor 1 told me later that they kept dropping their call. By the time they got through they were told that the emergency had already been reported and that an ambulance was en route.

Neighbor one added a bare bones land line to their house the next week.

Those minutes saved a life!

Your life (or maybe someone else's) you decide.

PS. When you dial 911 from your land line you are routed to your "LOCAL" emergency. That is not true from a cell phone unless you register it...and God forbid you have to dial 911 if you are away from home. Ex. You live in CA, take a vacation in FL and while there you need to dial 911 (because you were smart and registered in CA!)...yep - your call goes to CA - NOT Florida 911.

Great question.

This really depends on how much you think that you will use your cell phone in the daytime. Here are some key questions to think about:
Do you use your landline much? If you do, call your provider or go online and check out other rate plans. You may need more minutes.
Do you have insurance on your cellphones? This is very important because if your phones become damaged or lost and stolen, will you be able to have back up communication while phone is being replaced?
Do you use long distance? This shouldn't be much of an issue, most cellular rate plans come with domestic long distance included. If you have to wait till 9pm for free nights and weekends, do your LD calling then, this way minutes won't be deducted from your daytimes minutes. Can't wait till 9? If you cell provider offers early nights and weekends that may be something of interest.
Does your cellular provider offer mobile to mobile? If you don't already have it and they do offer it, add it on. This can be a feature that will save you alot of minutes and could help from keeping you from going over.
Do you live in a place where alot of bad weather occurs? If you do, keeping your landline may be helpful since you may not have cell fully charged if power goes out.

Hope this helps.

I did. I have a cell phone with unlimited minutes and a HUGE "local" calling area where I never get charged roaming or long distance. The cell phone bill was cheaper than my land line bill and I get to take my cell phone with me. So, I just got the land line turned off.

I think it is. I did myself and I found it to be okay. There is no point in having a house phone when everyone has a cell phone. As long as you dont go over your minutes its fine, the cell phone bills wont be that high and its one less bill to pay in house. Just an opinon

That's up to you.

You may want to reduce your landline calling plan to the bare minimum so you can receive incoming calls from people who don't have your cells.

I'm dealing with the same thing right now. My cell is cheaper than my home phone, however, my home number is posted on all of my resumes and given to business contacts.

I am sure the trend will go towards land lines disappearing, many public telephones have gone this way too, why not try not using your landline for a month and see how you get along

Depends: if you dont think you will ever need to call 911 then yea go for it. Also how many times have you had problems with your cell phone/phones compared to your traditional landline.

I hope this info helped
