Chronic blepharitis or infection of tarsal glands. Antibiotic ointment and hot wet compresses will help.

Ever heard of "The Sandman"? That is where that term comes from. If it's just a very small amount in the inner corners of your eyes, then most people call it "sleep in their eyes". However, if you cannot open your eyes because of it or if you have burning or itching and redness that doesn't recede within an hour of waking, you could have conjunctivitis-what is commonly known as "pink-eye". It can be easily treated by your eye doctor with antibiotic drops.

I know this sounds very oldfashioned but if you will rub a little Vaseline (the kind in jar) on your eyelids at night, that will help. Don't put enough to be blurryeyed, just a dab.

You can't get rid of it and if you did, you'd need to close your tear ducts (which is what causes that gunk in the first place)... and since that's impossible you're stuck with the gunkies. Sorry, but no tear ducts is no fun... I was born without them and needed eye drops constantly. I finally had surgery and they sliced me a pair and now I'm good as new.

YAY ME!

You NEED to see a doctor, ASAP, because you may have an infection or something that should be treated by a PRESCRIPTION medication, but even if an 'OTC' fix will do, ONLY YOUR DOCTOR can tell what it is and how to treat it.

Every single person in the world has this. It's not a problem at all. It's just what happens.

You may have severe dandruff. The flakes fall out at night when you are sleeping and fall right into your eyes, like light gentle snow . you wake up with" eyeball snow" a medical condition.
