You shoud go to a different vet. Even if she doesnt have hip dysplasia, she sure has a problem of some sort and needs to be treated!

I am a proud Rottie owner. I have had a total of 7 in my lifetime.
They all lived to be a rip old age. Get a second opinion soon. Go by the vet and pick up your x-rays and go to a second vet for another opinion. You would do that if it was for you. I also had problems with elbows. My male had a bad elbow that bowed and was painful. I still say it probably the hips. Does the dog sleep on a padded bed. Do you allow the dog to jump off beds, couches etc. The vet should have offered something for pain at least for arthritis. I don't think I care much for this vet already.
Good luck and give your baby a hug from me. I

First of all, that wasn't a question.

Did the vet take x-rays of her hips and back? What about her hind legs? How old is your dog? Is your dog overweight? There are so many things that need to be considered when evaluating this situation. It could very well be hip dysplasia (pretty common in that breed), an intervertebral disc problem, a torn cruciate ligament, arthritis, a tumor on a nerve or in the spine, or something else entirely. Please take your dog to the vet (or a new one if your vet wasn't much help) to figure out what is wrong with your poor fur-baby. She is obviously in a lot of pain.

Your vet's probly a friggin moron! If she can't get up by not being able to move her leg, then yea, I'd say it's a good chance she has dysplasia.

However, there could be other things that could be causing this. She could have a broken/fractured leg, although, I don't see why the vet wouldn't have caught this.
She could just have a bruised hip typically from being hit by a car, being kicked, or getting into a fight.
How old is she? Is she getting up there? If she's getting old, then it's probly just arthritis. That can be treated with meds, and lots of love and patience.
If she's not that old, then it could be a problem with her back, or another part of her leg.
If she has problems with more then one leg, then there's something else wrong with her. Take her to another vet, and get a second opinion, and if they say the same thing, then ask for a cat scan/mri/and whatever else. She could have a tumor somewhere.

Rotties are prone to bone disorders, and some kind of mental illness. I can't remember what it's called, but it can kill them, if you don't catch it in time. So I'd take her to another vet, and see what they say. Get a full body checkup.

Go to another Vet ASAP!! Yelping is an expression of pain and pain indicates something is wrong- it could be anything from a muscle tear to chipped bone, hernia or heavens knows what else but it is going to take a vets skills to sort it out- so go now!

Does she have arthritis? Has the vet suggested other tests if he doesn't know?

If the answer to the latter is no, it's time to see another vet. The poor baby sounds like she's in some major pain!

Good luck!

it depends on how old the dog is. it should not be yelping.. the vet surely checked for other things..thorn in its paw..fractures etc?..if not - i would not be happy with your vets comments..saying it hasnt got hip dysplasia is not a proper diagnosis. get another opinion for the dogs sake - it must be hurting somewhere.

if its an old dog..maybe arthritis? my dog had that..he used to limp badly...somebody told us to give him the human arthritis herbal tablets RHUSTOX..and he walks fine now..no more limping & struggling to walk...he is much livlier now...and it is SO much cheaper than the vets medication.

I would definitely get a second opinion and have them check for other possible problems too. How old is the dog? Older dogs can develop arthritis and stiffening of the joints which will cause pain and make it difficult for them to get up. There are pain meds for dogs with arthritis and other problems.

Owning the breed myself, I would get another opinion. Rotties are very active and jumpy dogs for their size. Yelping every time she gets up there is definitely something wrong.
