If you are cheating in your heart, you are cheating. Period.

Depends on the chatting.

If you had a friend in high school and just talked on the Internet to catch up. But didn't talk but once or twice, and didn't have a history of dating. That's not cheating.

But if you are just going to a chat room to talk to someone to get your rocks off...or get excited...or to get something you aren't getting from you husband/wife. That is cheating.

It's kinda like this. If you stay away from the edge, you won't have to worry about falling off. But if you try and see how close to can get to the edge, you might fall off. what is your marriage missing if you have to chat on the Internet with strangers?

But again, i don't know the whole story, so i can't judge to much, and i can't give you a complete answer. But i hope this helped.

More than likely if it's you chatting online and you're asking this question then you already know it's wrong. If you thought 100% it was fine you wouldn't ask. Please don't think I'm being harsh.

But if you are giving someone else your time, intimate parts of your life such as sexual conversation and giving your thoughts to someone besides your spouse it's cheating.

Cheating often starts with a thought. Ask yourself if you feel comfortable telling your spouse what you're doing or if you would do it in the same room as them...if your answer is no, then online chatting is an activity you should pass on.

If your emotionaly tied to the chatting to the exclusion of another partner it is 100% cheating. If your just chatting with no emotional tie I would say 0%. Once your emotionally invested outside or a committed relationship, you've crossed the line.. It's all it or all out..

If you are flirting with the person then it is a form of cheating. I talk to an ex-b/f that lives across the state, but we are now both married and don't talk about anything sexual. My husband has chatted with him and I have chatted with his wife. You should NEVER chat with someone of the opposite sex if it makes your spouse or significant other uncomfortable.

Cheating and infidelity includes INTENT, as well as the actual action. So even if you are only lusting after other people, without anyone's knowledge, you're still being unfaithful to your partner. Certainly it's not as bad as actually having sex with these people, but it's still unfair to your partner.
you can't break this sort of thing down into percentages and say "well, 20% is not as bad as 60%, so it's okay."
Either show respect to your partner and yourself by staying faithful, or break it off and let each of you pursue your own interests.

It certainly can be depending on the subject and your motive. If you are chatting about things that your SO wouldn't want you chatting about with someone else, it amounts to cheating.

If you are just talking with someone about non-relationship type things like weather, hobbies etc, it probably isn't cheating.

I have come across online friends who later confessed they cheated in chat....both males and females.
Based on my own list and chat experiences, I would say about 85% cheat on their partners or/and spouses.......
