A buzz cut is good, requires very little maintenance, dries fast, doesn't get squashed down in a hat or hood. You'll have to have it cut about once a month or so, depending on how short you want it, or if you're handy with an electric clipper and the boy will sit still, you can do it yourself for free.

depending on his hair texture..if he has straight thin hair, an angled longish cut that ends int he middle of the ears is a good idea. if he has curly hair, keep it short in a crew cut
