Typically men ask women to marry them, and although I am "old-fashioned" in some respects, I was wondering what people thought about a woman asking a man.

I have a lot of guy friends, and although they want to be gentlemanly and manly (know what I mean?), there are lots of social situations where they would have loved it if the woman had taken the initiative. They are under a lot of pressure to live up to this idea of what being a man is, and if you were to take some of that pressure off of them, it would be such a relief. That being said, if you two are obviously in love and want to get married, does it matter who asks?

As far as I am concerned, it is fine with me. It all depends on how well the relationship is going, I think. As a woman, you would not just ask a man you just met to marry. However, if you spend enough time with the guy and have a wonderful relationship that strongly indicates a future marriage, I think a woman could then ask a man for marriage.

If she's confident in how the relationship is going, then by all means she should go for it. Instead of getting a ring, how about a nice engagement watch? It doesn't have to be super expensive; perhaps in the $100 range. Heck, Queen Victoria proposed marriage to Prince Albert, but that was because she was a queen and he was a prince so it was a status thing.

If the issue is really about getting married and a couple has probably already talked about it, then it doesn't matter who does the asking, as long as the answer is yes!

Well I think its just fine. I asked my boyfriend last year and we are getting married in June this year. So its most definitely not a relationship ender. He wanted his chance to ask me too so we ordered the ring I wanted and then he took his time to ask me too and then we announced it and had the parties etc. Go for it if you think he will say yes.

There's nothing wrong with a woman asking a man to marry her. Just means she has to go through the same nervousness, terror, pre-question vomiting...

I would like, my boyfriend asks me to marry him. It's a little bit stupid if women asks a man to marry her. I know a lot of women who asked their husbands to get married! Just I think it's more romantic if man asks! but if you want to do it and you think it's right, why not?

to each is own, but I personally couldn't do it, and I know my fiance made it clear early on that he would be the one doing the asking and I better not try it! It bothers some people, but like I said to each his own, and if that works for you and the man is the type who can live with it, then go for it......

I don't know... If a guy wanted to marry a woman, he would ask her. I wouldn't do it, but I know women who have. They also end up explaining to people why they had to do it. It does make things kindof awkward.

Consider me "old fashioned" too - I say the guy should ask. Though I'm not traditional about the whole ring thing.
