I used to have brick walls too.

I hung up nice rugs with colorful decorations, big ones and had 1 or 2 litographies with light spots directly to them.

The idea is to give color on the brick walls.

I would use the brick wall for the entertainment center and hang planter, table, light, pictures, shelf's or what ever decorations you choose from the ceiling, you can use chain, or rods. It will add dimension to the wall and dress it up at the same time

Whatever you decide to do, DO NOT paint the bricks. For one thing, it takes a ton of paint to cover brick, and you'd have to go over it many, many times.

Someone in the apartment before me painted my brick fireplace wall offwhite, and it looks just terrible.

Real, unpainted brick can create a very "homey" cabin-like feel. I would try going with that type of theme.

Good luck!

They make these neat hangers for brick walls that require no drilling to hang pictures or other decorative items...

So you don't need to be handy with tools, and you make no permanent damage to the surface. You can change the height and location at any time such as seasonal arranging.
